So we have three completed movie trilogies- the PT, OT, and ST. I, like most people, was introduced to Star Wars through the OT, and those films are obviously excellent and the reason SW is still such a cultural phenomenon to this day. I enjoyed the PT as well, even though I was very young at the time so I didn’t fully “get” a lot of what I do now, especially the politics. But I was fascinated with the new characters and new worlds, and now I appreciate the story the films tell as well. The ST- well, can’t say I’m a fan at all. I could probably write a book on the problems with those movies, but I’ll just say this- they didn’t feel like a continuation of the story. I can’t imagine that George Lucas would have just repeated the same story he told, and I wish we had gotten his ST instead.

Quality goes by release order for me: OT > PT > ST

OT and PT are pretty close, but OT edges it out. The ST is a very very distant last.

The amazing art design, sound design, score, world building, and strong central story from the OT can not be overstated.

And you can say mostly the same about the prequels (Not a fan of the ROTS’s art direction, but I love the other two. Some real top tier stuff.)

The ST has basically none of that. What it does have is some interesting central characters (whose potential wasn’t properly scratched), a couple neat expansions to the Force, a bit of whimsy and fun (I like Hux, sue me), and a few strong story/character beats told through fairly effective and entertaining moment-to-moment filmmaking. I don’t think it’s an abomination to the saga, as I think flipping the script and making the OT heroes’ future not at all like we expected to be a valid thematic addition, but I don’t think the filmmakers (Abrams especially) exactly knew what to do with it.

So pretty much whatever good there is still feels like empty calories. Still hoping for Filoni to discover the secret nutritional value, clarifying or reframing some of the story choices, and by expanding the lore and worldbuilding of the era to give the ST its own identity and valid reason for being.

OT is the best by at least 12 parsecs, maybe 14.

The ST has some likeable characters and a few interesting situations, but it doesn't tie together the way a good story should.

Aside from Qui-gon, I don't like the characters in the PT, and the dialog and acting are terrible. I doubt I'll ever watch any of them again.

    OT by a country mile.
I'm at an interesting age where I grew up with the originals (mostly the Special Editions) and the Prequels, but also enjoyed the Sequels as they came out when I was college and a little after.
OT is a clear beginning, middle, and end that tells a near-flawless story.
The PT has some great moments and incredible music, but is held back by worse dialogue, acting, and directing.
The ST is a step up in a lot of ways from the PT, but still has many baffling story points and is the messiest in terms of plot out of any of the trilogies.
But when all is said and done, I enjoy all 3 trilogies and all 9 episodes.

OT by 1000 light years...although I now consider the OT to be a 4 movie set Rogue One->ANH->TESB->ROTJ.

The PT had some interesting ideas (and the music is absolutely stellar) but the direction is terrible, the acting is wooden, the writing is mediocre at best and they fail at their main purpose - to convincingly portray Anakin's fall.

The ST movies are well made, acted. directed, etc... but are somewhat of an incoherent mess story wise and are thing and unoriginal in many ways.

I can't stand many of the poorly thought out retcons in both the PT and ST. (One reason I like Rogue One so much is that it feels like the only post OT movie where the makers actually paid attention to what happened in the OT and did their best to write a good story while staying consistent)

I generally like the ideas behind the PT better, but ST movies are just more entertaining (ROTS is decent, but TPM and AOTC are bad and boring)

The OT is without a doubt my favorite, though I'm a fan of all three trilogies.

OT and PT are pretty equal with the PT getting the vote due to its more ambitious scope and storytelling. The ST is far behind, falling short of the other two in almost every way, probably except the effects, but particularly with its poor writing.

Prequels all the way, best direction, visuals, character dynamics, music, thematic depth. The OT is stellar too, with perhaps a better line in comedic wit than the more solemn PT. Rogue One straddles the line between the two.

I don't really care anything for the ST whatsoever.

    1) OT: SW is a near perfect film, and it's the best edited action flick imo. ESB is a near perfect sequel. ROTJ is not great, not terrible.

    2) ST: TFA is a fine and fun film, enjoyable but not thought provoking or risk taking. TLJ is the best and boldest SW film ever made. TROS is absolute garbage.

    3) PT: TPM is a guilty pleasure, I enjoy it the most of these three mainly due to nostalgia but also Liam Neeson's performance. AOTC has one or two cool set-pieces but is otherwise a very bad film. ROTS has interesting ideas and a pretty lousy execution. Ewan is great though.

pretty easy vote for me - the OT. all 3 films hugely enjoyable with fantastic characters.

the PT has a lot of good story and plotting, but the characters /performances creak and wobble a lot.

the ST - better in terms of the actors' performances, but story-wise pretty bad.

PT. I'm not saying its objectively the best, just that it speaks to me more, with the greater emphasis on worldbuilding and all the politics and intrigue. Then the OT, the the ST is worst by several lightyears imho.

It's the ST that I would have liked to write, inspired by GL's outline and my own imagination.

I know that's not actually included in this poll, but I tend to think outside the box ;)

The Prequels are my favourite. The Originals are objectively better made, but the Prequels tell a more interesting story in my opinion, and that's what matters to me.

I am in the minority whose favorite trilogy is the PT.

I just love the worldbuilding and politics of the PT era. Naboo is a beautiful world with classically influenced architecture, and I find the aesthetics of Otoh Gunga with the amber bubbles cool. I still remember my childish little gasp from the first time that I saw TPM in theaters. Coruscant with its worldwide city that never sleeps vibes was also really neat to me with Dex's diner. Plus the Senate and the Jedi Temple being there adds to its appeal for me. The Jedi Temple Archives and Council Chamber in particular were fascinating to me. I felt like the Jedi Temple as a whole and the Archives in particular would be a place I would love to explore in a galaxy far, far away. Of course I am a librarian which could explain my attraction to the Archives;)

I also admire the scope and ambition of the PT in terms of wanting to explore the downfall of a golden age. How a Republic turns into an Empire due to political corruption of a cunning and manipulative guy like Palpatine.

The fact that we are also following more of a tragic hero's arc with Anakin Skywalker rather than a traditional hero's journey like with Luke Skywalker does draw me in because I have a soft spot for angst and tragedy. Macbeth. Othello. Anakin Skywalker. Give me all the tragic heroes and their angst please.

Also, it is an entire trilogy where my favorite Star Wars character Obi-Wan Kenobi gets to be a major character, so well how could I not love it despite any imperfections?[face_love]

I respect the OT as the trilogy that started it all (and totally understand why a majority vote that way) and the ST was fun for me (though to me it wasn't as good as either the PT or the OT) but if I am voting for my favorite Star Wars trilogy for me it is definitely the PT.

The Original Trilogy is still peak Star Wars for me. I think the number one aspect of the Original Trilogy that I appreciate is its charm. I find the characters of the Orginal Trilogy so much more compelling than the later trilogies. I'd much rather follow the adventures of a scrappy farmboy, a scoundrel with a heart of gold, and a kick*ss princess than a bunch of stoic monks and politicians. The Sequel Trilogy seemed like it was trying to copy much of the OT's formula but some of the creative decisions really held it back, leading to a trilogy that left me frustrated and burned out rather than eager for more stories in that era.

The Original/ Classic Trilogy. It is sublime, the acting alone in ESB and ROTJ is on par with Shakespeare IMHO. The emotion, the music (Imperial March, Jedi Theme, Dark Choir), and so much more.

There are two original trilogies and one unoriginal. The former two are almost inseparable as far as I'm concerned, since they so clearly form one greater whole; a complete narrative of which they are two tightly interwoven halves that strengthen each other's points and elevate the story to something greater than either one could achieve on its own. GL's magnum opus.

I guess that opus would be my favorite if I had to pick one.

I have an issue with saying things like that that exclude a movie or triology from the Star Wars Universe. Thats pure head canon. Whether or not you like the movie or trilogy they are still star wars, regardless if they were produced under Lucas or Disney or whether they stink or are awesome. Star Wars fandom tends to arbitrarily break the movies down like this.
