Lets not pretend like it isnt going to happen. My opinion is to not pull any punches and recruit a high volume author like Neil Gaiman or Stephen King ( its not like Lucas cant afford it ) and if he cant get them maybe write the book himself. I thought his sequels to the movie " Willow " werent that good, but Im sure he could make something work with the story of Palpatine. There has to be some insider info on this on whether ( or more likely when ) this book will be written and who will write it.

After reading Cloak of Deception I think I would like to see James Luceno write it. He seems to do a good job on political intrigue.

After The Sucess of the Borne Movies I read much of Robert Ludlum's Work and I think he could do it, he does a lot of political, spy trillers, and mystery works all rolled into one.

      The Life of Palpatine
      By Timothy Zahn

Kinman Doriana remember back to the first time he met that imbecile, Palpatine. It was 23 years ago to the day. The man was merely a Senator from the backwater resort planet of Naboo. Nowehere near the stature of a man like Doriana, who was known as "the Kingmaker" in his private circle of confreres. But, now was not the time to reminesce about the good old days of running circles around Palpatine's thought processes. There was much to be done. And the time for idle thought was over.

"Welcome to the Empire, Syndic Mit'thrawn'uordo, I trust your travel to Coruscant was uneventful?"

"Only because I disobeyed the orders of that mental midget of a man you call your leader, Emperor Palpatine," replied the blue-skinned visitor.

"He only remains in power because of my awesome skills," came a new voice. It was feminine. A tall, slender woman with fiery red hair entered the conference room.

"Aaaah, glad you could join us. Mara Jade," Doriana addressed the woman.

      Thrawn bowed.

Darth Vader entered the room carrying a serving tray full of refreshments. His deep breathing cut the silence. "My unbelieveably great lords and masters, where would you like me to put your refreshments?" asked the Dark Lord of the Sith.

Jade and Doriana replied in unison, "On the table, dog."

The comlink crackled to life, "Sir, we have an unidentified ship approaching our protected zone. We're running a trace on it now."

Talon Karrde sat in the cockpit of the "Uraqt-2," his newest smuggling freighter. "I hope this works, Iblis."

The gruff general sitting beside him nodded. "It will. It will. That idiot Palpatine certainly couldn't have seen that we'd utilize his transponder codes from the beckon call."

In the conference room, Doriana nodded in approval as the identity of the freighter was realized. "Iblis, you old shark. Did you think to outsmart me? Me?" He knocked the now empty tray out of Vader's hands which then made him even angrier. "Fool, can't you hold onto a simple serving tray?"

"I have a question," asked Jade?

"What is it, your greatness," answered Thrawn.

"Where is Palpatine. This is his novel," observed Jade.

"He doesn't rate a mention, that incompetant fool," replied Doriana.

"Hmmmm, so true. What about Car'das?"

"He happens to be late. He was playing dejarik with Palpatine, and had beaten him five times. Now the Emperor wants to play a best nine out of seventeen match. So he'll be late..."

Just then Lando smashed through the door screaming at the top of his lungs, "Thrawn's here! We're all going to dieeeeee!" He lept through the transparisteel window out into space.

Kinman and Mara looked at each other in disbelief...

Yeah, everyone knows that every Zahn novel has to mention Mara Jade's EYES as well. And the hair needed to be mentioned another fifty more times. :p

You really ought to take up writing fanfic, Genghis. ;)

I'm sure there are multiple authors up to the task of tackling a story about Palpatine, but I think I'd prefer to see someone with previous experience in writing for the EU. They'd have to be willing to do their research and everything.

Not KJA. We'd get stories about how the Emperor beat up kids and stole their lunch money.

Palpatine also cheated on his 2nd grade spelling test.

He also pushes down old women in crutches.

And I have it on good word that he drew on the walls as a baby.
