I remember. It was an epic struggle to force myself to finally go through them...

Oh, yeah. When they were first hitting shelves in the 80s I was a lad of 11-12 and considered myself above such juvenile material; looking back at them later in life I'd wished I'd dispensed with such silliness and collected them as I had the mainline Star Wars series. They were "just fun" and didn't necessarily feel pressured to be more than that, which is pretty refreshing nowadays. Back then it was still possible to create Star Wars content intended specifically for very young fans without hand-wringing over "canon" or having adult fans, laboring under the misconception that they are the target audience for Star Wars, looking down their nose at it. They presented a very unique interpretation of Star Wars (literally, in the case of Droids #6-8) and I'm glad they're not forgotten.

The Kalarba issues and The Protocol Offensive had some good stories in them.

    Plooooooooooz

Ah, right, those three. Those ones were the worst of the lot. "Star Wars from the droids' point of view." Did... did the authors of those issues somehow miss that Star Wars already was from the droids' point of view? That Threeps and Artoo were the narrators, the Greek chorus, the characters that tied everything together? Maybe they should have written an alternate take on the movie where Luke was the hero, too.

But hey, at least they gave us this:

The first five issues were pure class, though. Prince Plooz is a damn legend.

I love these comics! They're so awesome, hahaha. Was collecting the individual issues until the Omnibus came out. Hopefully both are collected in the Legends Epic Collections.

Those are part of the Dark Horse Droids comics. The thread is talking about the ones published by Star Comics(an imprint of Marvel).

That's exactly what I love about this adaptation - it shamelessly throws in all manner of unlikely side-adventures during pretty much any scene where the droids weren't present on-screen. From being fed to a monster by Tatooine's heretofore unknown (and hereafter never seen again) population of sentient mole people, to being presented to (and narrowly escaping from) Tarkin and Vader, to Threepio defeating the homing beacon (which was actually a droid, and had secondary orders to destroy Yavin Base) - like I said, it's a version of events you absolutely won't see anywhere else.
