Who thought Anakin had terrible pick-up lines?

Anakin had by-far the worst pick-up lines when talking to Padme. They were so corny like when:

Padme: Anakin you've grown
Anakin: So have you, more beutiful I mean, well for a Senator.
Padme: Oh Anakin, you will always be that little boy I knew on Tatooine.

 

Give the kid a break, Padme's probably the only non-Jedi female he's ever talked to.

 

Almost every line of the romance between Anakin and Padme is -to me- TERRIBLE...

And besides, as PB said above, Anakin doesn't have much experience with women anyway.

 

Hey T_C_1_4, why are you always bashing AOTC?? Come on, its just a movie, of course it has its errors. IT can only have so much good stuff.

 

I don't know about you but I enjoyed those lines. Yes they were dumb lines that showed his inexperience in wooing a woman. I really laughed at how he got "spanked" by Padme in some situations. I kind of felt sorry for the guy because I have been there on my youth. If you heard people laughing I don't think it was because the did not like the lines, I think they were laughing at Anakin because he kept getting trashed by Padme who was a more mature and sophisticated lady. If Anakin wasn't a Jedi and he was a regular Joe he would stand no chance with Padme. But because Jedis in that time may have the same fame as celebrities in our times, he still gets the girl.
Bottom line, the dumb lines where there on purpose to show us how inexperience in love Anakin was and to make us laugh on his clumpsiness, and to make us want to give him advise!

 

Padme: Anakin, you've grown.
Anakin: So have you, I mean. Grown more beautiful, I mean. For a senator, I mean.

I love this line. This line is corny solely in context of the movie (in other words, not a bad line, just a bad choice of words that Anakin made). It's great the way he starts out fine, proceeds to stick his foot in his mouth, and then jams it in there further. Think about it, he hasn't talked with her in 10 years. Of course he's going to screw up and stumble over himself. Then she manages to embarass him further by saying that he'll "always be the little boy [she] knew on Tatooine".

 

I love that line as well. I'd use it if the opportunity arose.

 

He he I think the entire movie theather when "Ouch! when Padme told Anakin that "He'll always be the little boy", Ouch!, that hurts the same as being told to be loved as a friend.

 

Anakin Skywalker: Inexperienced 20 year old in love.

Han Solo: Experienced 28-30 year old in love.

Big difference.

 

I'm not even all that convinced that Solo was in love up until maybe ROTJ. I think he was just after that princess booty. Solo was an operator. Anakin had zero experience. have you ever seen someone like that talk to a girl? It's painful to watch. The dialogue was just as it should have been.

 

Anakin wasn't supposed to be a casinova, he was supposed to be an emotionally imature teenager. I thought his attempts at wooing Padme were consistent with the emotional state of his character.

 

His lines may have been stupid but they worked.

 

Padme joined in on the bad lines

"I've been dying a little bit inside each day since you've come back into my life."

That kind of dialogue only works on Anakin "I don't like sand," Skywalker.

 

I cringe at those lines..not because they're bad really (OK, because they're bad). The thing is, as someone who has pretty much obsessed over Pademe for ten years and had zero romantic practice, Anakin's lines SHOULD come across like fingernails on a chalkboard.

They were atrocious. The fireplace scene was the worst lines of dialogue in the history of any SW movie or spin-off.

The wookie dialogue in the Holiday Special was even better.

George is a great director, editor, and movie-maker and is a genius but he needs to let someone else do dialogue.

 

I've flown from one side of the galaxy to the other and I've never heard anyone use pick-up lines like that. Oh wait, I have, it was the seventh grade!

Although I really really like the line, "I will do anything you ask."

Does anyone remember when Lando said "You truly belong with us here amongst the clouds"? Or "What have we here?"

Remember, that was ESB, one that many people consider the best, and they were as bad as many people say AOTC's are. AOTC's lines are corny because they're supposed to be. Anakin is not some sort of player, he's a 20 year old who's trying to hit on a girl he's had a crush on for 10 years. People say stupid stuff in times like that. I thought that the first time he meets Padme was one of the most natural moments in the love story. You cringe with him, not at him.

As for the fireplace dialog, the only sentences I have a problem with are "I am haunted by the kiss you never should have given me. My heart is beating, hoping that that kiss will not become a scar." He doesn't act as natural there as he does in the rest of the love scenes. But I don't have a problem with his lines in the rest of the movie.

 

His lines were terrible, and not because he's not a Lothario. The entire love story is more contrived and implausible than anything dished out by a second-rate soap opera.
