Who Would Make A Decent "Padme"???

A sequel to my not so famous thread Who would make a famous Jedi? I don't know who I would choose. I want to see your answers and choose from there.

Rose Byrne (the actress who played Dormé). Although I wouln't mind seeing Liv Tyler as Padmé.

 

Portman's fluffy presence is what makes me feel cold for Padme. She's very short, with a girly face and non-existent bust. I'd like to see a spicy young woman as Padme - Kirsten Dunst or somebody like that.

BTW,Leia's stature is only 1.53m,so her mother can't be tall,I guess.

I agree Natalie Portman makes a perfect Padme.

 

Kirsten Dunst is a chubby-faced cow. I pray she never gets a role in any Star Wars film.

Debbie Reynolds should have been the obvious choice to play Leia's mommy.

 

Nicole Kidman and Cameron Diaz are a bit old to be playing that part. She's not that much older than Anakin.

Natalie has a wonderful face for the part--very reminiscent of Mark Hamill in some scenes, and of Carrie Fisher in others. Robin Gurland [yup, that's an edit, because I typed the wrong name before] did a great job casting both parents. Obviously, Anakin is very tall. Both twins are short. Their mother had to be small statured. Her body type is like Luke's--small and lithe, like a gymnast (while both Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen have rounder features, like Carrie Fisher). Physically, no one could possibly be better for that role than Natalie Portman.

I also like her interpretation of the character. She has her little neuroses and discomforts, and she likes things the way she likes them... but she has a kindness that overlays everything. I don't have a particular opinion on Kirsten Dunst--she's one of those actresses who's just kind of there--but Cameron Diaz is definitely not the right presence, aside from being quite a bit too old (good Lord, she's around my age!). She's good at goofy comedy and being a little odd, but her presence is not as regal and solid as Natalie Portman's. I have no idea about the actual relative intelligence of these actresses, but Natalie Portman plays her parts with a deep and uneffected intelligence, which is what was needed most for this part. One of the most important things about Padme/Amidala is her self-reliant intelligence tempered by her inexperience... it made her believeable both as a queen and as someone duped by Palpatine.

 

Jennifer Love Hewitt would make a good Padme.

 

Kirsten Dunst can we say teen moives. Ok I'm sorry but she is not that good. Big deal she kissed Brad Pitt. Natalie Portmen is a much better actress then her.

So really no one else woudl be able to fill the role of Padme. Not Kirsten Dunst, not Jennifier Love whoever, not Britney Spears, not another other actress who has stared in a teen moive.

Like someone else said Natalie Portmen had what was need to fill the role. Also if people are only saying Kirsten Dunst becuase of the wet t-shirt in Spder-man then god help us.

 

It should be whoever played Mimi on the Drew Carrey Show.

Coupla years ago I would've said, "Keira Knightley", (i.e., Sabé in TPM), but now she's too tall and lanky. True points as far as physicality goes for the role, JediGaladriel.

But overall, Natalie leaves me cold as Padmé. She had her moments, especially in AOTC, but I don't think she's ever topped her acting performance in "The Professional" (a.k.a. "Leon") . . . when she was 12!

Have you ever heard of the moive BRING IT ON! That was a very very very very very very very very very very bad movie. If Kirsten is such a good actress then why is it must of the roles she and others like her in teen moive roles? Sure all watch a moive Reese is in if I want a good laugh. Sure all watch a moive Tara Reid(don't know hwo to spell her last name.) If I want a good laugh. But other then that there not good actress.

That all I wil say on this. Also the post before this one is right. Portmen is Padme not much any one can do now.

 

Portman is great as Padmé.

Kirsten Dunst = teen movies? I don't think Spiderman was a teen movie.

And I didn't find anything wrong with Bring It On either, but maybe Iw as too busy drooling over Kirsten and Eliza.

 

Yes, Natalie Portman is a better actress than Kirsten Dunst. I don't think Dunst is bad, particularly, but she's basically done pretty fluffy roles (angst-ridden girl in Virgin Suicides, vampire kid in Interview, Mary Jane in Spiderman), so she hasn't been tested much. I don't know that I'd call Spiderman a teen movie per se; I think it gets that label because comic books are thought of as an arena for teenage boys. It's a bit unfair, because its theme is as mature as AotC (it's the same theme, actually, which interested me). NP has had harder roles and she's done quite well with them. Padme is considerably more complex than Mary Jane, and has more on her shoulders, and NP does very well with her.

I don't think Natalie Portman is a better actress than Kirsten Dunst. KD carries most of the movies she is in, for example, Bring It On, that movie sucks, but she is perfect in her role. Natalie may be in better movies, but I don't think she is a better actress, I have yet to see NP show the range of Kirsten Dunst. As for who would be good as Padme, I honestly can't think of anyone. Even though I think NP is really really bad in the SW movies, I can't imagine anyone but her in them now, I've gotten used to her. She isn't as bad in AOTC as in TPM though.

 

You guys all have very good answers to the thread. But Padme just wouldn't be Padme if Natalie weren't in her role.
I'm still thinking about KD being a better actor than her though...
