Who's wiser- Yoda or Gandalf?

First off, Yoda was a warrior and he DOES have a lightsaber. There's even a picture of it in the official visual dictionary. Second, Yoda won his Force-war with the Dark Jedi. Gandalf lost his magic-war. And if it took Yoda a long time to realize the truth about Palpatine (which it didn't; he always had his suspicions), it took about that long for Gandalf to find the truth of the Ring. Yoda succeeded the near-impossible by training Luke, ten times too old to undergo Jedi training. Even things he failed to do in his lifetime, he sent Luke to fulfill. He is very wise.

but Gandalf is wiser in a different way.

Gandalf is more patient with people who are not of his stature. And it seems like Gandalf learned by experience, whereas it seems like Yoda had all that knowledge hammered into his brain.

Strictly wisdom-wise, Yoda has more, but Gandalf wields it better. (Of course Ben Kenobi would beat them both )

 

OK, we know that Yoda HAS a lightsaber. But that doesn't prove that we'll see him WIELD it.

 

I haven't seen Yoda pull on some funky green leaf yet, so I'd say he wins. (I don't remember the "Halfling Green" from the book, but we're going by the film, right?) I don't know why that was included in the movie. Did I miss something?

 

Narrow minded people, the wisdom of Yoda and Gandalf should not be compaired.
The power held by Gandalf, though is far the greatest, which will become obvious as the last 2 episodes of LOTR are made for those who have not read the books

 

I changed my mind. I think Gandalf is wiser and more powerful.

Mmmmmm, much wiser is Yoda. His his ally is the Force. And a powerful ally it is. Between him, a tree, a rock, everywhere. Yes, even while whooping Gandalf in a wisdom contest.

 

Yoda seems wiser but that's because he was a teacher!

 

If Gandalf is indeed a man that has lived for 10,000 years, then I'd say the benefit of experience would go to him.

However, Gandalf is also a human that has only learned to use magic, and NOT tapped the ever superior philosphy of the force.

Sure he can lob balls of flames and tame a balrog, but unless Gandalf could tap that mystical energy field that controls the DESTINY of a thousand WORLDS, then I'd have to say Yoda is far superior.

Seeing that Gandalf is a demigod, it has to be him.

Yoda is regarded as the best lightsaber fighter of his time. If he dosen't whip out the saber in AotC I will be very disappointed.

Gandalf. He's thousands of years old. He does better than just appear as a ghost. He was wise, spoke in riddles, but at least it was the riddles you were puzzling out and not just the syntax.

he smokes a pipe.

They both have sticks,
yoda uses it to walk,

Perhaps you missed that part where they said that it only worked on the weak minded.

If Yoda steps on Middle Earth he's dead. The Force does not exist there. Which means all he could do is hit Gandalf in the shins with his cane.

If Gandalf were to step foot in the Star Wars galaxy then he might be in for trouble.. maybe.

But the point of the thread is who is wiser. Just think of the insight, wisdom and enlightenment that Gandalf has accumulated in 10,000 years. Yoda is like a teenager compared to Gandalf.

Gandalf is the undisputed king of wisdom.

But that's just my opinion, and I'm a HUGE LotR fan (a bigger SW fan, but Gandalf is my fav' LotR character, hence my dilemea...)

 

well, gandalf is THOUSANDS of years old, yoda is only 800.
Gandalf has a staff, for you non LOTR fans, a magic sticks.
for all those who say yoda is wiser because he uses mind tricks, only the weak minded have to use mind tricks!
