Who's wiser- Yoda or Gandalf?

Hmm, typical "my dad can beat up your dad" poll. It is rare when we actually find out the result

I doubt that Gandalf will ever win on an SW fan board, even though it's obvious that he's wiser.

I better question would have been, who would you ask for advice when you're in deep trouble.

 

Only mind-trick Masters like Yarael Poof might be able to mind-trick the strong-minded.
Gandalf could mind-trick Saruman, and Yoda probably couldn't.

 

I voted for Yoda...he never ever said he didn't know, or that he didn't have any answers.

 

He did - in his way of talking.

Yoda the more wiser is.

He's never gonna win a grammar contest but from what I saw he did considerably better against Christopher Lee than Gandalf did!

The moral of the story is if you take your time and go in with a plan of action, you don't get end up battered and hung out to dry on the roof.

Yoda is wise indeed.

 

I voted for Yoda, as well. I think Gandalf is an able plan-former and a great leader. Yoda is the kind of guy who sits back and offers advice (=he's wise) and moral support.

I voted Gandalf cuz he was losing.

Gandalf is older & took 60 years to realize the Ring was in his reach. Yoda is younger and took WHO KNOWS how long to realize the thing about Palaptine. Yoda is a way better fighter cuz they both went up against the same person (Saruman/Dooku/Christopher Lee) and Yoda was beating him. Gandalf lost.
Then again...Gandalf was nominated for an Oscar and Yoda is a puppet/computer project.

I dunno maybe we should give them both a wacko test and find out for sure.

Gandalf had to look up the stuff about the Ring of Power in some old books.
Yoda would have known right away. Then he would have meditated a bit, then taken care of the problem.

I want to see Gandalf try to thwart a Dark Lord like Count Dooku with his hands, like when Yoda caught the lighting from Count Dooku!!!!!!

Gandalf is wiser.

Yoda is better in hand to hand combat, and at teaching others in the way of the Force, but Gandalf wiser.

In the Silmarillion, Tolkien even says that the good guys were able to win mostly because of Gandalf's wisdom and power.

The Rebels didn't win because of Yoda....sure, Yoda gave advice to Luke, but he was never giving the pilots tips on how to blow up the Death Star(s). Yoda gave advice, but he was never able to use his smarts against the enemy like Gandalf could.

And please, if you can't even spell Gandalf or Frodo right, take your fanboy opinons elsewhere.

 

There is two quotes by both of them that will always stick with me

Gandalf to a depressed Frodo:"So do all who live to see such times,But that is not for them to decide.All we have to do is decide what to do with the time that is given to us."
Because of those two quotes I can`t decide.
Gandalf,and Yoda have always been hero`s to me.I can`t even them out.

I think Yoda is the wisest of them all. I don't care how long Gandalf has been alive or that he is a wizard or even gets away from Saruman, Yoda is ALWAYS more wise!! He is the wisest you will ever see. He is the wisest of all. He is the one to "Rule them all".

 

Some of you have already mentioned that Gandalf is older than Yoda.Strange it seems, though, the fact that Gandalf , after ALL those years of experience and wisdom could not take the ring.Was it because he was tempted by the evil the ring of power could do? Yes I believe so.How wise you must be in order to avoid temptation? On the other hand Yoda was never tempted(as seen in the movies) by the dark side of the force-which could offer more capabilities that the ring of power IMHO.The last can be debated by you..
Small or great : evil remains evil and gandalf could not resist it.

Depends of the setting.

If it's any systems in the Star Wars Universe, Yoda is wiser, stronger and more powerful.
On the other hand if it's in middle-earth, Gandalf is wiser, stronger and more powerful.

I don't get those pointless debates
LOTR vs SW, or SW vs ST , and so and so.
They are all great in their unique perspectives.
And besides, there's no fair way to compare them.
Yoda is a Sci-Fi character created for a movie.
Gandalf is a fantasy character created for a classic of literature, later adapted for the big screen
What's the point in trying to decide who's wiser?
They both figth the good cause, that's what matter. Perhaps while you decide wich one is wiser, or who would win in a figth, if they meet by any chance, I hardly bealive they will start getting it against each other. Instead, they will learn from one another.
