From what I have read these droids were about the equals of the Jedi without the force powers. Holowan programmed them in all 7 disciplines of Jedi combat. This alone should have made the droids much better opponents for Obi-Wan and Anakin. But Grievous discarded the factory programs and personally trained each Magna Guard to his satisfaction. This was supposed to render them even more lethal. Why then are the Magna Guards so easily dispatched by the Jedi with nothing resembling a fight? It really is a pity to see such advanced droids portrayed more like common B1 battle droids.

Because it's Anakin and Obi-Wan, not some idiot Jedi who can't even remember that they can drop heavy things with their minds.

Sure Anakin and Obi-Wan have highly impressive resumes. But why even have the bridge fight scene or even show the Magna Guards at all if they are portrayed so ineptly (I didn't like the Magna Guard fighting Obi-Wan seemingly confused after his staff was merely pushed against the low wall on the bridge, huh whats that about? very weak).

They're just something to pass the time with by watching them get cut in half. :p

They were weak in the CW too!
Ahsoka held her own for crying out loud.

Magna guards were only tough for Jedi with little to no common sense.

Couldn't it be that they were mostly there to give GG or Dooku the upper hand - instead of them being able to overpower a Jedi, which is absurd. When Kit Fisto duels GG he is near destroying him (very cool by the way) in the Clone Wars. When GG summons his Magna Guards, Fisto realizes that he is outmatched, or nearly so, and thus leaves the duel. So in that sense, they have a most useful purpose - didn't Dooku do that to Yoda also in some novel?

Because there simply is not enough screen time in ROTS to give everyone their due credit.

    They don't deserve any.

Its crazy when you stop and think that most all of the Jedi forgot about the Force when confronted by GG or one of his magna guards. Droids against Jedi is laughable at best, absurd at worst. Especially after watching Kenobi and Jinn Force push them more than once. Seems they collectively forgot that parlor trick by the time AOTC rolled out... all except Fisto. And, even that was done in jest.

Very true. In TPM we see QG and OBW kick butt. Then what happened; did Lucas decide they were too good? "Let's throw in some new droids that will have the Jedi running home to their mamas, mwahhah"

I mean, seriously. Force push Grievous into a wall, and you win the duel.

Obi-Wan did that, apparently without damaging Grievous to a significant extent.

    Magnaguard VS IG-86 sentinel droid

    Which one would win?

True, but the distance from the push to where GG landed was huge - so he had ample time to prepare. It was one heck of a force push though! Why not lift him with the force and bash his head a few times to the ground?

For one, it wouldn't exactly be Jedi-like. :p

Thank goodness I am not the only one who can't stand the concept of General Grievous.

Playing at swords looks lovely, but I think GG should have been scrapped by the first Force-Sensitive he faced.

Esp. the Clone Wars Cartoon. Looking at that fr a moment, he is able to fight Five Jedi at once. Even if one of them were tired, it makes no sense how he is able to fed off the rest.

That's a dark side power. The Jedi don't use it.

Well, the cartoons showed Mace crushing his metal, without breaking a sweat I might add (that scene is priceless) - so either Mace is that much more powerful, or GG isn't that strong...
