Isn't it kind of odd for Anakin to say that, when already Obi Wan says "..you'll be the death of me". The latter is foreshadowing no doubt but the former is intriguing.

Unless this means, since Anakin was almost made in to a machine in the droid factory, it is Obi Wan who "kills" Anakin and due to that the persona of Darth Vader is born.

Or is Anakin just saying that, because GL thought it was funny to put it in?

It was for comic relief and foreshadowing. Mainly comic relief though.

I think it was comic relief and the realization that Obi-Wan would be angry if he knew Anakin lost his saber again.

It's because Obi-Wan had just lectured him on how important a lightsaber is to a Jedi... "This weapon is your life!" and hardly a day later, he destroys it. It's the same with teenagers and their parents... "Oh man, Dad's gonna kill me for... (whatever)" it's not literal.

I think the line was put there intentionally. In a sense, Obi-Wan does kill Anakin, since it's apparently Obi-Wan's final confrontation with Anakin that drives him over the edge and makes him become Vader. In fact, that line could be foreshadowing E3 and saying Obi-Wan will have a more direct role in Anakin's fall than we thought.

Yes, DLM. My sentiments exactly. Also partly due to the fact that I always felt that GL's dialogue although sometimes simple, are there for a reason, not only just because its for the kids, kind of thing.

For me it was just for fun. Maybe we shouldn't start looking for "deep meanings" in every line Lucas writes. I mean, c'mon: "R2, what are you doing here?" (or something to that effect)

I didn't like the "Not again" part because that didn't happen before. He just lost his saber before not get it stuck in a droid making machine. And it makes no sense how he gets out of that anyway.

I thought it was funny because in TPM (although it was a cut scene) Qui-Gon scolds Obi-Wan for not taking care of HIS saber!

Of course, Obi-Wan wasn't going to kill him realisticly, Anakin just said this due to all the previous times he lost or had crapped up his lightsaber and due to the fact that he is even off of Naboo.

Not everything they say in the prequels is foreshadowing something, it was a simple figure of speech, Obi-wan had told him again and again never lose his light sabre and what does he do shortly after?

People agree, people read way to much into the smallest things

I'm a big fan of analyzing things in Star Wars, but I don't think the line "Obi Wan's gonna kill me" is meant to be looked any further into. It only functions as comic relief, to show Anakin's teenager-ness, and to link back to the lecture outside the nightclub.

It doesn't really mean anything. Every piece of dialogue doesn't necessarily have to have a meaning or forshadow something or have a lot of signifigance to the plot.

But, it is a nice bit of reverse irony, considering that we DO know whom eventually kills whom, in the end...
