What the hell does it matter, anyway? After a history of fighting each other, I'd strike first against a Sith, too...

If it's obvious that someone's going to fight you, and you attack them first, it doesn't mean [edited]... it's all about your intentions...

If a cop finds a criminal that's armed and dangerous, he's going to pull his gun on him.

I think Anakin crossed the line when he attacked Dooku... not because he struck first, but because he attacked for revenge. ("You're going to pay for all the Jedi you killed today, Dooku")

Similar to Luke... Luke activated his saber and took an aggressive position because he wanted revenge for Obi-Wan and his friends. From the point that Dooku fried Anakin, it was pretty obvious he wasn't going to come along quietly; so Obi-Wan had to rush him. I would have... :D

YJ edit: When hiding a swear, be sure to mask out every letter.

    >>>>Nope! That's not the right word! Sorry! Think South Park....

    Moral cesspool.

    Never watched it; Never will.
They mock a very good friend of mine......

Actually, I don't have cable, I have only seen a few episodes because a friend bought one of the videos and we watched it... nevertheless, the word was part of a popular catchphrase.

I saw the South Park movie, but it made me sick. I wanted to leave, but I can't walk out on a film when I've plunked down the cash... too bad they don't offer money back guarantees!

How do you know if they mock your friend if you have never seen it? Huh?

    Back on topic...

Obi-Wan didn't attack first. He just drew his lightsaber in defense, because he had a feeling that Jango was going to try to shoot him.

It's not defense if you aren't being attacked yet!

If I shoot a burglar, that has a gun in his jacket, in my home, I can go to jail for murder, even though he was trespassing and was armed.
If he had brandished the weapon, that would be justified.

(The previous scenario depends on individual state and local laws, but you get the point.)

Jango had a jet pack, saber darts, and two blaster pistols. If Obi-Wan hadn't drawn first and Jango fired first, I'm pretty certain people would have called Obi-Wan an idiot for not protecting himself against the obvious.

Yes Punisher, but a lightsaber isn't a long-range weapon. Obi-Wan was a ways away from Jango when Jango fired the first shots. Obi-Wan had shown no signs of trying to attack. He didn't start charging towards Jango until after Jango had fired at him.

    Exactly, Darth Moderator.

However, every once in a while, you get a guy who'll argue despite all proof until you want to bang your head against the wall to relieve the pain.......

I think we may have another one here.

BTW, Punisher, I have a clicker & went by South Park long enough to hear them mock my friend. PM me & I'll explain if you want....

Even if Obi-Wan did attack first I don't think you can blame him. Dooku did send monsters after him, then destroyer droids, and then thousands of droids. I think Obi-Wan was a little pissed off at Dooku.

Obi-Wan: Hey look theres Jango Fett the vicious bounty hunter, and he's turning around!
Well I'd better hold out my hands in a friendly manner so as not to alarm his kid.

    Obi-Wan: AAARRRGHHHHH!

    hmmm..

Why would people say Obi-Wan was stupid, he's a noble person. If someone like Han Solo could wait for Greedo to fire first, then Obi-Wan just seems bloodthirsty.

I watched the DVD again... Boba says "Dad! Look!", Jango tells him to get on board Slave 1. Obi-Wan then pulls his saber from his belt and ignites it BEFORE Jango pulls his blasters from his holsters.
Obi-Wan didn't wait to defend himself, he was already in a attack position. He did start moving as Jango began firing, from the way Obi-Wan comes into frame.

    And sometimes you get a guy that enjoys seeing how many people enjoy beating their head against a wall. 8-}
    Hee hee hee! [face_laugh]

Don't quit on me now... we still have about 10 pages to fill. [face_mischief]

Well, Mace Windu drew his sword and put the blade to Jango's throat. Sometimes desperate times call for a measure of that degree. Obi-Wan was clearly on the defensive since Dooku attacked first.

It's discussions like this that will make people think twice before they respond! ;)

It's amazing how people will argue things that can be solved by either watching the DVD or VHS tape of the films before they hit the "Post Reply" button.
It's also amazing how one person can can continue to get responses from people that should have known better to try and convince the other person of their error, especially when the argument was quite silly in the first place and the poster should have had enough intelligence to have turned on a DVD or had shown some degree of understanding of the SW universe in other posts.
I hope we all learned something from our time together.

BTW, I'm sure Gen. Madine would love to be the author of a 12 page thread... let's bring a little happiness into his life, shall we?

    Chew on this....

I think that Anakin & Dooku working together could have defeated Dooku... he simply was outmatched by them.

    WWWWWWWHHHHHHOOOOOO AAAAAAA!!!

I thought my thread was going to be locked because I indeed made a BIG mistake, and SORY for that...

    but this is madness!!
How can someone keep arguing about a clear mistake!!! People, find a thread where there can be serious discussion, not like this one!

I laughed quite a bit when I saw 42 posts on this thread!! HAHAHAHA,

come on, lets go home and rethink our lives...

Why didn't Obi just force pull the blasters out of Jango's jingle little hands? WHy didn't he do the Jedi dart dash to Jango while he was still loading up his spaceship, the way he and Qui Gon escaped those dreaded Droidekas? Why didn't do the same thing when attacked by Droidekas on Geonosis?

Why did Obi Wan attacked first on Dooku with his lightsaber?

?The force is used for knowledge and defense, never attack?

Because Obi-wan is the ****!! And when we make him CGI oh my ******* god! You are not going to ****** the **** of *** friggen *****...

err wait, I think I've been hanging out in the Basher's home to long heh! ;)

Okay, I'll give a serious reply... will have you know it PAINS ME to do so. I accept paypal btw if you feel guilty over my suffering. ;)

There's an offense ready position and then there's down right not paying attention. To use a RW example, domestic violence. Many times, let's take a battered female's circumstance because it happens to them more often, they simply can't/don't realize when the threat is about to esculate.

Knowing when one doesn't have an option except to attack or be the first to be attacked... well do you wait to get hit? That's always the trick question with people. It's why, I am guessing from the movie, Obi-wan was going to have Anakin circle to one side while he another. That perhaps they could put Dooku at a disadvantage which always opens up more options; from perhaps not having to fight at all to finally having to fight but the least amount of damage is done. Course we know that Anakin didn't listen....

He doesn't think that far ahead or with cool straitegy. A couple martial art styles operate around the "always" defense theory and heavy leaning to the, "Just to get away" situation. However, you should also note in these styles while they have an even heaiver leaning towards survival but still killing quick blows. By heaiver I don't mean other styles don't but, for example, Karate is designed to kill or take life; Aikido is designed to perserve or defend your own life and if you have to take it.
