Why did Padme's decoy tell Padme to clean up R2D2? Why couldn't she get one of the other handmaidens to do it? Is bossing the real Queen about something she enjoys doing???

Might be because it helps keep Padme in the loop if she's involved in cleanup and still doing things. You don't want to stick her over in the corner.

I always thought Padme asked her to do that so she could infiltrate the group and get their measure.

Cuz she finally had a moment of power and was determined to punk the queen. After all, I believe she lost an election to Padme.

Maybe Padme wanted to show her full gratitude to R2, by cleaning him herself.

And the Queen, uh... knew that? [face_dunno]

I remember an early novelization where Padme began to suspect that the decoy was enjoying her new position a little TOO much and reminded herself to talk to the decoy about this later.

I never really got the whole 'she'll be in the loop' explanation. She's basically in the storage unit, how would she be in the loop on what's going on? It's not like everyone holds the important meetings in the storage unit.

It comes up in Episode I Journal: Queen Amidala:

    ENTRY 4

    EVERYTHING NEW AND STRANGE

Now that I am Padme, the Queen can command me to perform tasks. I told Sabe she must do this, or it will look suspicious. But does Sabe get just a little pleasure out of telling me to clean up an astromech droid?

Maybe. She's only human. Actually, once I began, I didn't mind the task. I like working with my hands. It takes my mind off the impatience. And after all, the droid saved my life.

I think Padme likes being bossed around during role playing with her maidens.

I thought this thread was going to ask why the handmaiden said "sorry Senator...I failed you" when she did exactly what she was supposed to do.

    Hmmm..

    as to the thread itself

    "payback :p"

    Why?

Because the Naboo are nice people, that's why.

I've always wondered that. She did exactly what she was supposed to do. “Sorry Senator . . . I've failed you.” would be appropriate if Padme died.

Cleaning up droids is a trait she passed onto Luke.

Because having a dirty, blast scored droid hanging around the Royal yacht doesn't look good for the Royal House.

Because Padmé evidently told her decoy to tell Padmé to clean up R2, since Padmé wanted to clean him up herself.

I think it was a ploy to let padme quietly "infiltrate" the group, see what there saying, talk with them etc.

Honestly, I thought it was just so Padmé would have an excuse to move into the Queen's line of sight for any continuing discussions. Thus the "Queen" could see Padmé's reactions and answer accordingly. And then Padmé went to clean R2 to keep up the ploy. I remember how the fake Queen looks to her before they try to grab a ship to get off Naboo in the opening.

If I recall correctly, Padme also makes some subtle head gesture to the decoy while standing behind the Jedi.
