The Sith have always needed desciples...weapons...tools...Jedi.

Darth is all of these, and more.

It may be his PLAN, but the Emperor is not successful in that PLAN.

    Why?

    Oh yeah:

BECAUSE HE WAS TOSSED DOWN A REACTOR SHAFT!!!

[face_skull] Well he kind of had to save Anakin. It would be stupid to have wasted time and energy to turn him to the dark side and to then let him die! So I think he saved him because he thought he was worth it. If he wasn't, then he would have left him to die.

Vader in the suit is still more powerful than any of the Jedi that may have survived (other than Yoda or Ben). I think it is safe to say that all the Council members are dead (Shaak Ti?). That only leaves regular Jedi, who, we have seen, are actually little match for anything.

Dooku's dead, Assajj Ventress is AWOL, who else is there?

"The Manbot is old" comment seems off-base.

Remember, the most powerful characters in the PT (other than Anakin), Sidious, Dooku and Yoda are all old guys.

Age doesn't seem to lessen a Sith's abilities. Dooku was 30 years older than Vader in ROTJ and was still kicking arse (especially Obi-Wan's).

This dovetails into an interesting aside from the "clone Palpatine" thread.
If Palpy was so clone happy, why not clone an Anakin with all his peices and
some good lungs instead of keeping Fire Marshal Anakin around?

Why save him? He was fresh out of Sith.

To paraphrase the immortal line of Ralph Wiggums: "awww, he burned my sith apprentice".

    i've just figured it out.

Palpatine saved him because he then knew that anakin would not betray him because he owed him his life. Palpatine could then make anakin his servant making him do whatever he wanted. We see Anakin fulfilling his life det to palpatine wen he protects him from luke.

Palpatine basicly wanted someone to be loyal to him.

    (ironicly, vader betrayed palpatine)!

Shadows of the Empire....... ah what a book - My favourtite in fact.
Just a polite note though - Vader is able to breathe momentarily in his chamber because he lets go of the darkside.
The harsh reality of him doing this however is that he cannot sustain himself for long - and has to quickly embrace the dark side to stay alive.

So in a sense the Dark side has healing powers - because it keeps VAder alive. But to let go of the Dark would mean his end.

The book describes how he did this release in his chamber with the hope that eventually the damage to his lungs would repair.

Always got to get this in:

It was the will of the Force that Anakin be saved at that moment, so that he could be the Chosen One 24 years later.

Think of it this way: Look how much damage was done by Palpidious without getting into a single fight. Epi I, II, and half of III. DV had potential despite the damage done. It made sense to me, save DV and use him. If he is strong enough or effective enough great if not work on another.

Just because Vader's not as powerful as he potentially could have been, doesn't mean he's not powerful. GL says he becomes 20% less powerful than the emperor; that's not too shabby. Obviously, at this point, there isn't anyone else with similar power and the Emperor still needs an apprentice. I agree that his smile during Vader's "hissy fit", shows that he thinks Vader will do for the present.

I was also thinking about this . For one scene, Anakin is dubbed the new sith lord, a few scenes later, he is a living stump. Sidious must have just thought "No good can come out of him if this what happens."

Allthough, Sidious isn't stupid, he knows how powerful Vader is so he gave him another chance to rebuild the empire . He was just a Jedi Knight in ROTS, Sidious knew that when he progresses , he will be unstopable .

Simple. Palps is arrogant. Thinks his planning skills are impeccable. He had the clones wipe out most of the jedi so they're aren't many left. I already took out a loan on this one. Lets take it to the shop and fix it. It may have a salvage title, but works as good as new.
