Why did Qui Gon not know that Padme was the real Queen of Naboo?

I am not sure if this has been asked before, if it has been please cancel the topic. But why did neither Qui Qong or Obi Wan sense the deception of Padme and the fake Queen of Naboo until they mentioned it themselves? It seems to me that they would have sensed some deception going.

Even Palps does not seem to sense it either when they first meet at the landing bay on Coruscant but he has seen her via hologram before.

 

They did know all along. That is why Quigon taunted her ever so subtlely throughout the movie.

But I am not sure if Palpatine knew.

 

Palpatine knows everything. He must have known.

I also agree that Qui-Gon knew. In fact, I am willing to bet that Jar Jar and Anakin were essentially the only ones fooled.

George Lucas even says the same thing about Qui-gon knowing, and subtley teasing her about it in the commentary.

 

I think Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan even had a little bet of theirs going on about it

Ok I agree, they knew and kept it to themselves mostly. So Palps must have known as well.

 

I'm sure Palpatine was in on the little scam from the start, since he was Naboo's senator.

Qui-Gon Jinn had too much insight not to know. Sabe and Padme looked nothing alike so Qui-Gon and probably Obi-Wan knew all along. It's really not hard to see the difference between the decoy and the real one, unless you're seeing the movie for the 1st time.

 

I'm not so sure that Obi-Wan knew. Qui-Gon obviously did, between his taunting and his "I told you so" expression during the reveal; Obi-Wan's expression didn't suggest prior knowledge of the information.

 

Sabe and Padme looked nothing alike

Actually they do look alike, as if they were sisters. From the "real world" point of view Natalie and Kiera look amazingly similar. In Pirates of the Carribean, from certian angles, Kiera looks just like Natalie.
