Because they aren't slut-shamers and fat-shamers. And they don't live in your Brave New World where MM was average looking. Also, Audrey Hepburn's figure was very likely the result severe wartime malnutrition, which resulted in chronic health problems for the rest of her life.
Yeah, Audrey Hepburn lived in the Netherlands during WWII and in the initial postwar period where there were frequent food shortages.
" looked like she ate more cheetoes than britney spears post breakdown" - has it been covered what this means? I'm not sure if I'm missing a reference, or this is just she's too fat to be liked? And I don't get the Audrey Hepburn thing. Of the stuff I've seen she's been in, it's one decent movie, and two bad ones, and she didn't impress me in either of those.
She was more revered as a fashion icon and a humanitarian (worked with UNICEF partly because she was helped by UNRRA) than as an actress. That said, I saw Charade recently and I enjoyed it.
And I can't get past Micky Rooney's character. I know he's a rather minor part of the film, but I haven't seen it in ages because of him. It's insane even for 1961.
What's that thing you called her in your OP? Floozy? There it is. She rode the flooze (is that a thing?) for all it was worth. She was the first famous unapologetic floozy. Women find her indifference to "slut-shame" empowering, and men just like sluts. Fun for everyone. I cracked the case wide open, detective.
I loathed her in Breakfast at Tiffany's. Though I also hate that movie for the Mickey Rooney thing that Darth Guy mentioned.
Society is not by a long shot as condemning of male promiscuity as it is of female promiscuity, even today. You know this. I think it's safe to assume that this disparity was even greater at Monroe's time than today.
so i said. what about. breakfast at tiffany's. she said i. think i. remember the film. as i recall. i think. we both kinda liked it. because we're. bo-oth. racist as ****.
Didn't like Roman Holiday, either. My Fair Lady was alright, though. I still have Sabrina on my watchlist for Amazon Prime.
Speaking of Breakfast at Tiffany's: a picture of Mickey Rooney on the set of Breakfast At Tiffany's. (Joke shamelessly stolen from A Practical Guide to Racism)
Monroe? The appeal is largely lost on me. In nearly every movie of hers I've seen, she was outperformed (e.g., the considerably more talented and alluring Jane Russell wiped the floor with her in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes). Plus, in my eyes, there's nothing sexy about stupid.
I have never found Marilyn Monroe that attractive. It's probably partially just personal preference. I prefer brunettes which, ladies, makes me no gentleman. Then there is the fact that she often played real dimbulbs, which is a turn off. I definitely recommend Some Like It Hot, despite her presence there. And I think she actually gives a very good performance in The Misfits, which is a masterpiece (though Eli Wallach gives the best performance in the film; maybe the best of his whole career).
