Why do worms smell like fish?

It's winter down here,a nd in winter it rains A LOT and that means the ground gets all boggy. And when it rains sure as Darth Vader's a Sith Lord all the worms from the grass crawl up onto the pavers and die when the rain stops.

And then, after they dry and lie there and stick to the pavers I have to come along with a broom and scrape and sweep them up. And they smell like fish, a salty smell like when you're at a lake that needs dredging badly.

Anyone know why? It's not exactly gross just unpleasant esp if the worms are still moist.

I smell more like a burning tire.

At least, that's what a girl told me last night.

 

Maybe because fish eat worms they need to smell like each other.
