I actually like Corran Horn also......

My only problem with him, is that he frequently comes off as being self-righteous.....

The only book where he has nearly annoyed me a lot was Rebirth, when it seemed that there was never a moment when he wasnt chastising Anakin...........

True, true. And he was being a hypocrite. He went after Mirax.

I like Corran Horn. And the only book I read that had him was I, Jedi. Maybe there are a few others, but he wasn't a major character in them. Other than being a stuck-up ******* to Luke sometimes, he's fine to me. :) Not to mention really cute. :D

Lady_Ex, Corran was the main character in no less than 7 other books.

    Rogue Squadron
    Wedge's Gamble
    The Krytos Trap
    The Bacta War
    Isard's Revenge
    Onslaught
    Ruin

I, Jedi is the worst offender for Corran being perfect. He spends the first half of the book three steps ahead of Luke at the Academy, Stackpole numerous times made an event shown in the JAT bigger so Corran could be the secret hero. The on I usually think of is the dumb bird things Kun brought to life and how Stackpole added several more and had Corran take them out in a Z-95. The scene at the end of that part with the claw in the hull made me cringe at how lame it sounded.

Hamtaro I think you're way off on which character's author's Larry Stu. For this your pic is irrevelent.

Zahn created Thrawn and Stackpole created Corran and both have contrived to stick their characters in unreasonable places and have an impact far out of reasonable proportion.

I don't think Luceno and Roa are comparable to the above descriptions in any way at all. For one Roa wasn't created by Luceno. Roa was created by Brian Daley. Droma was introduced and then left.

I thought Keyes had a good take on Corran. Arrogent, hypocritical but with moderate Jedi talents.

In I, Jedi, I really feel that Stackpole was attempting to fix all the mistakes KJA created for Luke during the Jedi Academy Trilogy. Trying to explain why Luke stayed on Yavin, even with Exar Kun, and all of his other stupid decisions KJA made Luke decide.

The Problem--Corran, just like Mara in VotF, only ended up lecturing Luke to death about his decisions regarding the Jedi Academy. He was constantly putting Luke down, telling him how to handle his job, and even won a lightsaber battle against him. Please! Although the book was okay, there were times I wanted to pull Corran out of the novel to bitch slap him. As if he could do any better than Luke could. And, mentioning that Luke should run the academy like the military--um, is it just me, but isn't Luke, the co-creator and former leader, (plus a Commander), of Rogue Squadron know a thing or two about the military? Is it just me who thinks this is crazy, or am I just daft, (or both)? :p

Personally, I actually like Corran. A lot. He's got a wonderful sense of humor, some comments I can remember right off the top of my head. He is confident, despite the fact he doesn't seem as strong a Jedi compared to a lot of them. He's also short--great unique quality. And, he's developed through the stories. Basically, when he's not being a Gary-Sue, (is that what it's called?), then he's an excellent character. He just needs to keep his mouth shut sometimes when talking to Luke. :)

Yeah, there was no excuse for Corran beating Luke in a lightsabre duel. NONE AT ALL.

I like Corran as well. One of the best EU chars. But he is just a little too good. That stunt he pulled at Shalla the Hutts base was too much for a 4 month student to do.Plus he's a damn good pilot, dectective as well.
He's just a little too good with that energy absorbtion.I don't think it's supposed to work that well.
Now Kyp I hate.I mean really. He thinks he's too damn good. And now he's starting to rub off on Jaina so I don't like her anymore either.Such a waste of a good Solo.
I don't think to much of his duel with Luke.Luke was under the weather.later in the book he pretty much affirmed that Luke was the master when Luke won a 5 on 1 with the jentaari.

I liked him in XW1,2 and 4. I disliked in 8 and the DTs. I was so-so about him in I, Jedi.

Basically, I dont like how hes a top piot, detective and Jedi. I dislike how evey other character in the XW books was second string to him. HE had the major romance. HE escaped Luskansya. HE was the Jedi. And so on.

I hated the way how he was so improtant in I, Jedi too. I didnt like how he beat Luke, was so helpful to him, fought more of those bird thingies, went out after Kun..... I would have rathered that all his improtant things were after Tavira, and the Academy was him learning

I think the best way to sum this up is how someone else said. Pilot Corran is great, Jedi Corran is bad.

Generally, non-Stackpole writing is good for him. THe exception is Zahn, who made him utterly incompetant.

Everyone has different views, but mine(obviously seen from my name) is that Corran Horn is a good person who has lived a hard life. Think of how your life would be, if your mom died when you were young and your dad was killed right in front of your eyes and the muderer got away free. He may be arrogant, but wouldn't you say everyone is in a way. What about after the battle on Ithor? He was so ashamed that he lived in exile for years. He may seem to be the best pilot, but doesn't the force help? Wedge is the best pilot. He may seem to be the best detective, but Iella Wisseri is just as good as he is, and she isn't attuned to the force. The reason he has such a big role in I, Jedi is because he is the "main" character. The story is supposed to revole around him. In short, Corran is just trying to live in a galaxy where he can be loved and respected.

    I don't hate Corran. I like him.
Heck, I even named one of my PCs after his astromech, Whistler. :D

And I don't think Stackpole writes him as a perfect character. He has a flaws, like any of us.

Besides... He hates Kyp. Whoever hates Kyp is cool. Everyone knows that. [face_blush]

Yea I have to agree with Hamtaro. Isard's Revenge was his best book, though I,Jedi was a very close second.
