Is it just me or is it kinda odd that he comes with a blue saber since he uses a red one. I was gonna buy him, but that just totally turned me off.

I was looking on ebay and searched palpatine and one came up with a blue saber, it was a ROTS one too, guess there's multiple palpatines with saber.

    There's a link to it.

*note to mods: this is not my auction, nor am I promoting it, just showing a picture of the palpatine i'm speaking of*

The theory is that Hasbro was left out of the loop in the inital run. So they ended up putting a blue saber in (I think I heard someone say its Anakins but I don't remember). Later they learned from their mistake and started adding the red. There has been lots of debate on it. If you look on ebay right now they are all saying that the red is the rare one but it might actually end up being the other way around when all is said and done.

Edit: Here is the rebelscum article on it.

so um...which palpatine should I buy then? Red or Blue? I can't decide, from what rebelscum says blue is quite common, and red is rare, but the blue one is an interesting variation, any help here is appreciated.

Back when ROTJ came out, the same thing happened with Jedi Luke: Kenner assumed he'd be packin a blue saber, and thus created the first wave of Lukes with blue sabers. That wave was quickly corrected, and to this day, the Blue saber luke remains the 2nd rarest documented variant of the vintage line, with only the Vinyl caped Jawa taking 1st place. The blue luke commands at least $250 every time it's on ebay, and usually much higher if in nice shape, or dare to mention, AFA graded.

Palps is mass produced, but will still be rare. Having read the book allready, i should mention that his hands never touch a blue saber. EVER. so it is safe to assume a mistake.

the figure is the Palpatine #35, the blue lightsaber does look like Anakin's lightsaber. I don't think the one with the red lightsaber will be the "rare" figure of the two, scalpers on ebay just want people to think that. It will most likely be the one with the blue, as soon as I saw the one I picked up I knew that they would fix this mistake ASAP.

Odd, all the Palpy figures I've seen, incuding mine, have red sabers. I will watch for that for sure.

Well, dont get confused with the Palpatine from the first 32 (cant remember the number) the one in the picture at the top of the thread is NOT the one we refer to. The variant palp doesnt have the black cloak and is dressed in a purple robe. I think he's one per case, and have only found 2 myself. was going to give the 2nd one away, but i should probably wait until they're out in greater numbers.

    onward.

One per case!? Is this going to be the number from here on out, or only for a bit longer? I really like this Palpatine and I'd like to get my hands on it. And to be honest, I don't care if it's rare or not, I just want this cool looking figure of Palpatine, my favorite Star Wars character. :p

ShaakTi, I'd get the red one, if I was only going to get one or the other, since in the movie, so far it appears Palpadious only uses the red one. Since he is a Sith. The blue ones are either a mistake, or Hasbro didn't know better at the time in the first run, like someone above said. That sure makes sense. If they had people involved that know anything about the movies, they'd of known he should have a red one I would think. Unless it turns out that in the movie he uses Anakin's for some reason.

These blue ones will be super rare if Hasbro caught this mistake and is switching to Red now. I got one and Im hanging on to it until the dust settles!

Its still a mistake on the reds as it's still anakins hilt.
So when they finally get a red sidious saber one out there.(i've seen a pic) then there might be multiple varients.(but yeah keep a blue carded)

I found the blue sabered Palpatine at Walmart yesterday along with the pilot, trooper and exploding Greivous. I found the red sabered version at Kohls this morning. Kohls has all the figures 33-40 and some of the lower numbers as well. They'll price match the Target ad from this week. If you don't have it the figures were marked down to $6.

I can't think the blue sabered version is right. It is interesting to think about the hilt variations...I noticed the hilt on the red sabered version didn't look like the one I saw in the preview. Someone said it is Anakins and even though I haven't checked that out yet, that seems right.

By the way, this figure says "Palpatine" on it..not Emperor, not Chancellor, not Senator. Just "Palpatine" and the cloak he is wearing is the same color as the deluxe figure.

Both of #35 Palpatine's Lightsaber's, the red one and the blue one, both have the same hilt that is all black on the bottom. It does not look like the same as #12 Emperor Palpatine's. Not the same hilt at all. This is all very strange. I would have though it would have been the same one as in the movie. Wondering whether or not during his battle with Mace Windu and the other Jedi who show up to arrest Palpatine, if he takes one of the other Jedi's lightsaber in the middle of the battle. Possible, but I guess we will have to wait and see. Later

It's Anakin's lightsaber hilt that Palps is holding in figure #35.

Jirin_Raman, I posted this over at another thread....

Anyways, I did score the #35 Palpatine with the red lightsaber, but I must say that this red lightsaber looks nothing like Palpatine's real deal lightsaber. Nor does the blue one. And I don't think the blue one looks like Anakins either. The entire handle is black. We all know that Anakins has black striped grips on his. This red one seems to have a solid black handle. Anyways, I have both version of Palpatine now! So either way I've something cool.

    Later
