Why does Yoda like the flashlight?

Agreed. Yoda is just being 'in-character'

 

Honestly, crazy Yoda was one of the best parts of ESB. His duel with R2 over the flashlight was hilarious.

You can even tell R2 is being cautious going for the flashlight at first.

He was probably thinking...

" WTH happened to you, Ok just give me the flash light before you hurt yourself."

 

Yoda was one of the greatest Jedi to ever grace the Order. He was the leader of the Council during the Clone Wars, and a great general to boot. If he wants to play with a flashlight, give him a flashlight.

Besides, you live in a swamp for 20+ years and see how sane you are.

 

Yoda wanted to play lightsaber with the flashlight. He hadn't played lightsaber in over 20 years. Didn't you play lightsaber with flashlights when you were a kid?

 

Which is actually almost completely true for two of the Clone Wars episodes


Again, I doubt people of the GFFA think of lightsabers when they see flashlights. Only geeky Earthlings do that.


and 20 years in a swamp doesn't really make Yoda go crazy, after around 800 years as a Jedi. He wasn't alone either, he had Qui-Gon to talk to

 

I wasn't aware anyone was capable of NOT loving that charming flashlight!
