Why doesn't Anakin scream?

When Luke has his hand severed, he puts out a scream that could be heard a mile away.

Anakin has his arm chopped off and doesn't make a sound.

Any thoughts on why or what it means?

 

Yeah I was wondering that too. But I imagine what happened was that Anakin's wound was a lot more severe than Luke's was abd he probably went immediatly into shock from the pain and passed out.

 

I thought about that too. Yet look at his face when he lands. His eyes are shut and it looks like he's sleeping. He probably passed out from the massive pain.

How he dealt with it when he woke up, I'll never know......

 

I think he was shocked untill he passed out. When he came too, he was probably just too proud to cry and whimper around Obi-Wan and Yoda.

 

Two words: Horse Tranquilizers

 

I mean, Vader made a loud groan when his hand was severed again, and that was just a robotic wrist! Luke screams too. So does Ponda Boba in the bar in ANH.

Honestly, I think it looks silly.

 

Perhaps he was in so much pain he just couldn't find strength to scream. Yeah and I also think it looked pretty silly. It woulda been interesting if they went a different way with Anakin having Dooku cut his leg off or something.

you here anikan groan then he passes out.... i've seen similar stuff like that happen in real life so i belive its farily real.

 

I think Anakin passed out almost instantly. Besides Luke didn't make that loud of a scream. Maybe if Dooku had told Anakin that he was his father then maybe annie would have let out a big "NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!"

Ever notice when Anakin lands next to Obi-wan that look that Obi gives Anakin? Funny as hell. Its a look like "Choosen one, my asss!"

 

If Anakin had started screaming, Yoda would've walked in during an awfully awkward situation...instead of having that cool entrance that he had...the timing was impeccable.
"Hmmm...screaming from the pain, that young padawan is...how embarrassing, how embarrassing..."
To ensure that his entrance was as cool as possible, Yoda put a force-sleep spell on Anakin.
...Okay, we all know Lucas did this to make sure the story was able to move on without having the audience concentrate on details irrelevant to the flow of the film, but okay, I decided to play along. And I encourage more people to do so, it makes for some interesting comments. Have a nice day all.

 

It looked like (to me) that he passed out right away.

 

Maybe he did not want to scream

 

Shock is a hard thing to judge. Sometimes it sets in quickly, other times it can take a while. I was hit by a car and shock didn't set in until a few minutes later (broken collarbone and lacerations in a few places, however, not missing limb).

I do think it a bit weird that he doesn't scream, though - if not from the pain of the injury than out of horror at the injury.

 

Went through it again, and it does look rather corny.

Maybe he didn't feel any pain!!!

 

Because Luke was a wimp and Anakin can take a little pain. And when Vader groaned it was probabley because he was mad at Luke for chopping of his hand which has been done already.

 

Yeah, he passed out, he can't take it due to his wimpness.

 

He DID make a little sound but just as soon as Dooku HITS him with that force wall, AND folks that force wall is just as strong as durosteel, he's knocked out!

Anakin DID make a sound when his arm got chopped. He made quite a loud grunt - "AGH!!". Then he passed out from the shock and the pain.

 

Well, like has been said, he was in shock and probably passed out, and even if he hadn't been, he had been trained to take pain, but Luke was just a whiney farmgirl.

 

You gotta think -- Anakin was ALREADY in quite a bit of pain. Not only mental anguish from the apparent death of Padme, not only exhaustion from the previous arena fight, but he had just taken a lightning bath AND gotten slammed into a rock wall at about 20 miles an hour. He was going on sheer rage-fueled adrenalin at that point. When he lost his arm, his pain threshold finally hit overload. His passing out makes sense at that point.

 

It was definately due to shock, but if not that, horse tranquilizers seemed to have done the job.

 

I don't know if anyone here watches ER, but Dr. Romano had his arm severed by a helicopter blade this season, and he went down, DIDN'T pass out, but never made a sound. Plenty of shock there. Maybe that's why no scream.

 

In general I feel like not enough of a big deal was made of anakins 'dis-arming', Lukes de-handing is horrific, he screams, the music matches perfectly and it lingers just long enough for maximum impact. But Anakins is so brief and under played you could almost miss it.

Even worse though is the zam dis-arming, I've had to explain to so many people what happened in that scene.
