Why Doesn't Dooku Scream When He Gets His Arms Cut Off?

He was shocked and speechless... The whole situation was out of place for him. He didn't expect "Young Skywalker" to defeat him, AND get revenge for his severed arm. AND he didn't expect Palpatine to tell Anakin to kill him.

He was shocked.

Cause he's a Jedi, not a Sith Lord.

 

Wouldn't the fingers still be wrapped around the lightsaber when Anakin catches the handle?

Maybe in that brief second that his flesh was burning his hand released itself from the grip. I know I jerk when I burn myself!

 

That's about right. He was having one of those shocked "this can't be happening to me" moments and didn't have much time to register that it hurt like a mutha.

Anakin didnt scream when he got his arm cut off. Anyways I dont think getting you hands cut off by lightsabers would hurt that much, i mean its pretty clean and the blood just flows out

 

Sorry to link this to another FANTASY franchise, but isn't this linked with Chris Lee's knowledge of injured and dying people in war???

He said in various ROTK:EE commentaries that he didn't scream loud when Saruman was stabbed because he was trying to portray a realistic stab.

Likewise, wasn't his silence more realistic than Mace's wussy scream???

P.S. - I had an injury to the back of my left heel a year ago - with LOTS OF BLEEDING - but I didn't scream like a wuss. And, if I remember correctly, I limited my experiences of pain to groans.

 

He was expecting the exact opposite thing to happen: he kills skywalker

 

First of all, I agree that having Dooku just stare in shock is probably more realistic. Secondly, I would like to state that Mace's scream is probably every but as justified as Dooku's silence, considering he is being tortured to death.

Besides, death scenes are much more fun to do if you get to scream!

On the other end of the arm lopping sound spectrum we have Mace Windu, who sounds like Luciano Pavarotti, when compared to the others. Makes me wonder if the request that SLJ made to Lucas, about him not going out like a "punk," was an unwitting faustian quid pro quo. Maybe Lucas was like sure I'll make you go out like a hero, by being the only Jedi to best Sidious, but then...your gonna wail like a banshee right afterwards.

 

At first I think he was just shocked that Anakin bested him since he was expected Sidious to intervene when he was in trouble.

His shock got worse when he realized Palpatine's Betrayal. He was too shocked to utter words or even sounds.

 

It's a sith casual reaction. Maul didn't scream

 

It's more realistic and because of that, it's a bit more scary than it would be if he was screaming.

I just wanna know if it's "Doe-kuu" or "Doo-kuu". I know it's spelled like it should be the ladder but I've heard it the other way. There's no pronunciation continuity in this damn flick.

Um, no. Taking away Lukes scream would have really let the air out of that scene, with regards to the shock value. Hearing pain is almost always more profound than imagining it.

I think I've read somewhere that Christopher Lee believed that it wasn't in Dooku's character to scream as he had both hands lopped off, and requested that it be done the way that it was presented on the big screen. Can anyone confirm this for me?

Like most of the other peeps have already mentioned though, it was definitely a combination of Dooku's trauma, disbelief, and his own personal disposition that resulted in his silence after Anakin de-handed him.

 

He did scream, but it was so high-pitched only those sand-dawgs could hear it.

I agree. Sometimes it is a lot more realistic without a scream. It depends on the character, and it wasn't in Count Dooku's character to scream.

My favorite part of the entire saga is Luke's excellant screaming while he's being blasted with lightning.

He also passed down his non-screaming to his apprentice Qui-gon who let out only a brief "mphh" when speared. It probably stems from Yoda's teaching(who trained Dooku)
