I mean, he had a lightsaber and just cut off his arm. One more swipe, and that Wampa was dead. He could have at least stayed there for warmth. Didn't he know that the temperature was dropping rapidly? I understand he was frightend, but c'mon, he's the one with the lightsaber!

Sorry if this has been brought up before, lock away if it has.

Because Luke is an animal-rights visionist.

A lesser-known fact is that Wampas have really bad gas, so I imagine that cave was a little ripe. I'd run too.

You can clearly hear another Wampa bark out when Luke is hanging from the ceiling and the the soon-to-be-amputated Wampa is taking its meal... Wampas live in communities and so Luke wouldn't be save inside the cave. There would be more to come... maybe more than he can handle ;)

I think that was simply a sound editing goof. I don't believe there were more than one of the Wampas in the cave. I'd think we would have seen him/her if there were. Luke bolted because he was terrified. Fight or flight response. I doubt it was much warmer inside the cave anyway. I guess it was out of the wind, which counts for something.

He should have at least eaten the Wampa before he left. It would have filled him up for the long trip home, and it would have taken that Wampa's attitude down a peg or two.

If he had stayed in the cave, he wouldn't have gotten to spend the night at the luxurious Hotel Tauntaun.

Well, did he take the time to research "Wampa" mating, eating, and social habits before going to Hoth? Methinks not by the way it snuck up on him. Large Cave. Nasty white man eating creature. Could be more of them. Could be MANY more of them. Were they in solitude, partnered up, family, extended family, or clan? He would have been gambling on Solitude/Partner rather than Clan had he stayed. I don't know how well lesser trained weakened state Skywalker would have fared against 12 angry wampas.

Considering I had a lightsaber, the ability to use the force, and knowing that ouside the cave was WAY colder, yes I would.

He had no idea where he was and I doubt his rations
or water would have allowed him to stay long.

Even though the cave was "warmer" it may not have been warm enough for him to survive. The only way that Luke was going to live through the night was to get out of the cave and hope that he would be rescued. He let the force guide him which lead him to Han who was out searching for him.

And, if he fell asleep in the cave he risked the danger of other beasts coming in to kill him.

I guess he could eat snow... could he melt it with his lightsaber?
I figured this would evaporate it...

If you held the lightsaber above the snow it would probably melt from the heat.

i always thought about this too. luke was prolly just scared. i mean for all he knew there were many wampa's in the cave. he was still relatively knew to his force powers and prolly didnt have that great a control over his fear yet.

We hear a second wampa... why should that be a merely goof? Are the wildlife sounds on Dagobah goofs, too? Or are there supposed to be creatures in the swamp we do not see?
When we hear blaster fire but don't see the bolts ('cause of the angle of the scene perhaps)... is this a goof too? And there are no blaster shots? o_O

No no no... there was a second wampa in the cave. We hear it in the movie.

With other wampa's in there and the fact that he was not at his best if he would have stayed he would have dead. So he took his chance out in the snow. Sure it was not the best idea because he started seeing things like Obi-wan. And we all know that you can't see dead people. :p
