I don't like the taste of lamb. There's this noticiable taste, like a sour taste...not spoiled, though, just something that is noticable. beef and pork don't have a really over-powering taste lamb has, to my taste.

I think that's called a musky flavor. Apparently venison is more musky.

Yowch. I still enjoy lamb, whenever my mother makes it.

I'm American, and I've eaten lamb before. It's a very delicious meat, but it's not something you can usually find in the supermarket, at least not at a cheap price. Only in good restaurants, really.

DarthBane420: What religion forbids it? Is it a Cathlick thing?

No, it is not a Catholic thing, at least not that I am aware of. It, however, can be a Jewish thing. I believe if you live very kosher, you'll won't eat any meats, only fish.

And, Gatherer, lamb is very expensive here in the States. Well, at least in my state. There's no way I'm going to pay $50 for something that will barely feed my sister. Not to mention I've heard the taste is horrible.

Yeah. I'd say it's expensive because it hasn't caught on. It's just not popular in America the way that beef is.

Lamb is the cornerstone of my diet.

Last night I made lamb burgers with feta cheese.

    Yum-MY.

Gyro meat is made from lamb. I go to a restaurant that specializes in gyros about once a week. Great stuff.

I like it in Gyros a lot. I might eat it more, but I've never had it any other way...so I dunno how it tastes prepared other ways.

    Right, missed this before...

Patently false. There are Orthodox Union-approved Kosher steakhouses. ;)

You just can't have it with butter... :)

Steak with butter? ?[face_plain] In anycase, they still can't have lamb.

And I think were all missing part of the big picture here, Gath doesn't know what pork is? It's pig meat really, diffrent parts then just lets say bacon or ham I think, but still part of the pig.

Well, some of my neighbors make tamales with vension and those are really good.

hee, kind of reminds me of the Simpson's ep., where Lisa becomes a vegitarian. Homer is asking her if she can eat pork chops, bacon, ribs, and Lisa is saying no, they are all pork products, and Homer is saying sarcastically, oh, yeah, right, like there is a magical animal that can give you all those products.

Bear in mind Lamb is a expensive meat product because of the law of supply and demand. :)

I've only tried it a few selective times but I enjoyed eating it. ESPECIALLY when you have Greek style in those sandwhiches they make with cucumber, yogurt, and garlic sauce. [face_love]

like a few have said- more expensive than other meats that can easily replace it in recipes, not as healthy (unless you mess with it enough), and just plain less popular. it's not found in as many recipes and most of it's original dishes have been modified to include beef or chicken instead.

think of shish kabob. originally made with lamb- incredible if made with lamb... Being from an eastern asian family, we make lamb whenever we have the time, money, and excuse. Everything's better with lamb!

yes, Gath is right - the lamb you get from Oz is the best in the world. The reason ? The farmers take special care of their lambs to ensure the meat is perfect.

Because McDonalds hasn't introduced the McLamb burger yet. Just wait. When they do, it'll skyrocket.
