How about remorse for killing the younglings and the rest of the Jedi, huh?

I guess English is not your first language so I will be more clear:

Why is there no remorse after he kills the Jedi, until a half hour later when he kills the seperatists, and why do those tears defy gravity to spread out over his whole face?

And a bonus question: how do you not sweat standing over a river of lava?

And yet, moments after slaughtering the seperatists, Anakin stands out on a balcony surrounded by heat, his face glistening in parts tears can't travel, and you call it late-reaction tears for what he did a half hour earlier in the movie.

Overlooking the fact we didn't know how ruthless Anakin acted during the attack on the Jedi Temple (except for what we see in that hologram Obi-Wan viewed), he acted like a crazed animal when he was going around the room killing the Separatists.

Chopping battledroids into hundreds of pieces like what he did on that elevator at the beginning of ROTS is one thing, but the savage way he took care of everyone on Mustafar was enough for him to have that "What have I done?" look on his face when he was teary-eyed on that balcony.

Oh, and the Separatists, overlooking those crappy security droids, were essentially defenseless when Anakin killed them. He at least engaged in lightsaber duels with Cin Drallig and the others when he killed the Jedi.

and why do those tears defy gravity to spread out over his whole face?

I like your sarcasm with this remark. :)

Anakin is crying. Period. He has tears in his eyes when he kills the younglings, he cries when he decides that he must save Palpatine and he cries after the slaughter at Mustafar. It's easy to see.

I just don't understand why he can't be sweating AND crying in that shot at Mustafar....

And nitpicking over how the tears flowed down Anakin's face is a bit much too.

Actually, he doesn't cry after killing Mace, either. Again, his face is sweaty, under his eyes, over his eyes, to the left of his eyes. He is absolutely anguished, and in the Mace scene I could definitely picture him crying because that is his moment of conscience. But he doesn't. I have no idea how this is so hard to see.

You could definitely argue in the balcony scene that he WAS crying, and was sweating, but then that begs the question, "How would we know the difference?" The way we would know is seeing a tear come down his face, which we don't see either in the Mace scene or this scene. Even if you think he was crying, you have to admit that he is not shown crying onscreen in either scene.

Oh brother. Typical troll. No one's agreeing with your argument, so you start hauling out the insults. shame_on_you

Don't be sensitive, and answer my questions. they are perfectly reasonable.

I'm far from a newbie, brother.

There is no argument. In the balcony scene, no tears flow at all. Even if you think he was crying, you cannot invent tears streaming down his face, because it does not happen. At best, you could argue that his face is wet from having BEEN crying. But there are no moving tears, nothing coming out of his eyes, none, zip zilch.

All you have to do is look at the conflict that's been building in him through the entire film and we know that he's been completely torn over what to do with himself "I'm not the Jedi that I should be, I want more."

There's a point during when he's tearing up the Separatists and they're cutting back and forth between him and Obi-Wan & Yoda in the temple that Anakin spins around and if you listen carefully, there's a loud wail of misery that sounds - it's coming from HIM, not those that he's destroying. Anakin's also got this look of agony on his face.

His eyes are yellow, and he does what he's been ordered to do, but ANAKIN knows that he's murdering these people for no other purpose than to hopefully make him "stronger" to save Padme.

I think the most telling thing about him on the catwalk is that after the brutality that he just committed is that he didn't immediately report success to his mission to his Master, but instead needs to collect himself.

Anakin spends some time trying to come terms w/ this path he chose to take - morally, he KNOWS it's wrong, but in his mind, there's no going back. When he finally does report to the Emperor, there's no joy or triumph in his voice. At this point, most of Anakin is dead, Vader the reluctantly dutiful tool of the Emperor is all that remains. The conscious of Anakin still lives though and will remain there until he finally does the right thing 20 years later.

I can understand why Anakin wouldn't cry over Mace... Mace was the one who flat out said Anakin wouldn't become a Jedi in TPM, Mace flat out tells Anakin he's not a Master thought he's on the Council, and Mace flat out tells Anakin or implies to him that he can **** off after Anakin mentions Palpatine suggesting that he go to Utapau to take care of General Grievous.

So Anakin is anguished over the death of Mace, but not as much since he most definitely thinks Mace is an ***hole. :p

IKill, I think it looks like he has been crying. But I have the movie in front of me and if you watch that scene in motion, his whole face glistens. This is true for almost all of the shots on Mustafar near the lava. When I frst saw that shot in the trailer, I thought he was crying, over padme or soemthing. But when you look at it, the wetness from the "tears" is all over his face, and in context, with the scenes that bookend it, it doesn't make any sense that this is his moment of remorse the way it might have appeared in the trailer shot.

Hmm... I guess I should've scrolled over the past few pages. So is this discussion about Anakin CRYING on Mustafar or about the fact he CRIED on Mustafar? If it's about the fact he CRIED, then duhhhh...

Of course there's no tears seen streaming down his face on-screen. [face_chicken]

Doesn't make sense for him to be crying here. The seperatists had previously tried to kill him and Padme - the nemoidians' trying to kill them goes back over ten years. So even if he never went over to the dark side, these guys would still have been his enemy.

He didn't cry when he killed Dooku, even though it was wrong and Dooku was defenseless. Because Dooku was a villain? Well, so were the seperatists on Mustafar.

Crying at killing the other Jedi or younglings, I could understand. But crying over the seperatists (who have always been enemies of the Republic, and had tried to kill him in the past, and who all appeared to be adults, and who were guarded by droids so not completely defenseless) doesn't make sense.

I go with "it's sweat." Or, his mind was so far gone by that point that he was crying out of hysteria. But sweat seems more likely.

if you saw no tears flowing down his face, then this was a silly thing to say:

And nitpicking over how the tears flowed down Anakin's face is a bit much too.

Now, finally, we agree. He is not seen crying. He is merely shown with a wet face while standing over a friggin' volcano.

Even DarthSil can't answer the basic questions, and no one has, because when you look at the picture you realize two things are undeniable: his whole face glistens, and no tears are seen moving. The most you see is a wet face, which you see throughout the mustafar scenes on the various characters.

You hit the nail on the head with his mind being so far gone.

But he is crying like his arm was twisted, not his mind. The whole point of his mind being twisted is that he believes good is bad and bad is good.

Well, having seen it 3 times, my view is definatly that he's on the balcony crying. Crying for what he's becoming. Crying for what he's doing. Crying, most of all, for what he's losing. He KNOWS he's doing wrong, terrible wrong, but he just can't stop himself because he needs to save Padme and let's be honest, there's a part of him that likes the killing and loves the POWER.

BTW, this whole moment is one of my fav's of the movie. The way the music reach's it's cimax as Anakin stares into hell, beautiful, just beautiful! =D=

While I do agree that Anakin was shedding a tear on Mustafar (perhaps he had a sudden vision of himself minus all 4 limbs in the near future? [face_thinking]), it seems a very odd choice on GL's part to show him so upbeat, righteous, in love after the Jedi killings when he visits Padme. Their passionate kiss and love-talk when he has just come back from killing hordes of people, including little kids with his own hands, seem just a tad nauseous. Yet, after killing a bunch of Separatists who had been waging war over the last 3 years, he sheds a tear. Why? Why not at least a hint of remorse during the Temple massacre?

Yes, perhaps he was crying because who's he gonna kill now? He was sad at his killing spree being over now that he had brought peace to his Empire! [face_devil]
