* Why Was Jabba So Feared?

A few things that puzzle me about this character, is how did he become so powerful? why did people fear him, he posed no physical threat, he just used his goons and Bounty Hunters to do all the killing. Was he born into a rich family? thus hiring muscle? Though how would a hutt make it's money?

1. He is feared because he could put a price on anyone's head at any moment.
2. A Hutt probably makes there money off of taxation.

 

He is feared the same reason all fat mobsters are feared. They make money from illegal activities and then pay people enough money to do whatever they say.

Jabba was a drug and slave dealer so I am sure that brought in the cash and earned him enough money to buy loyalty and fear.

 

I suggest you visit the starwars.com databank and do a character search on Jabba the Hutt. His rise to power and claim to fame are well documented there under the EU tab. There is too much info for me to repost here.

Do you think that every crime lord and gangster in the real world is physically powerful? Money, connections, and ruthlessness make one far more powerful than physical strength. The Hutts are like the the interstellar mafia of the Star Wars galaxy. Jabba was probably born into the business.

 

Jabba rules through respect. Mess with Jabba, you're messing with Boba and anyone Jabba pays to protect him. he's a big bully who's filthy rich and can do whatever he wants as long as his pocket book is big enough.

I'd certainly fear Jabba if he were real. Look at all those thugs and goons he has working for him. I may do business with him but I'd definitly think twice before crossing him. Jabba may pose no physical threat but he has the 'muscle' to do serious harm. I'd be worried he'd have Ephant Mon sit on me.

 

Great posts guys, cheers for the response. I agree Jabba is a bully, just like any other typical bully, useless and weak when it comes to a one on one fight (as Leia proved) but very tough while with a gang.

Well not everyone is fearful of the bully,mafia, or whatever. I'm sure Boba Fett wasn't scared of Jabba. The is also stupidity or arrogance which both could explain why Han didn't take crap from him.
