ST Will C-3PO be de-activated at the end of the ST?

Luckily droids can get a new voice via a firmware update.

 

How about this? Both droids sacrifice themselves to save the heroes at the end of the ST and they go out in a bang?

 

both droids kinda died in the Nomad Droids episode, amid all the slightly trippy wizard of oz stuff was quite a touching little scene of them both sitting down under a tree as their power runs out (around the 15:40 minute mark if anyone fancies checking it out)

Just remembered R2 sacrifices himself in "Point of No Return" ....only to get rebuilt.

Any deactivation/destruction of either droid will never last long

 

I dunno about deactivation, I mean Threepio is almost like the Squidward of SW. I'd rather see him have some kind of small victory or witty comeback, specifically toward Han.

Why would they want Episode IX to bet he conclusion? They paid 4 billion for the franchise, they'd probably want it to keep going.

 

They will certainly keep the brand alive, but there's no need to draw this one story out ad infinitum.

 

Exactly. Instead of keeping it in the pretty narrow territory of the Skywalker Saga they can open the whole franchise up to endless avenues of storytelling. There are millions of tales that can be told in that galaxy that doesn't involve a Skywalker or a golden droid.

 

C'mon 3PO lynch mobbers...we need more of you! We are less than half of the 3PO protectors now!

 

He's too much of an Icon, and disney loves Icons, if they ever to a Star Wars Land, the centerpiece will be ginat R@, 3po, chewie, and Yoda

Threepio slips on a banana peel into the Sarlaac. Camera pans up to see Han grinning maniacally as he chomps on bananas.

 

Or Han just knocks him into the pit with his stick "accidentally". "3PO? 3PO? Where?"

 

There is no reason to stop it either. The ST will introduce new characters and planets and ideas etc.... Why wouldn't they continue on with that?

The two are not mutually exclusive.

I don't think I would want to see 3PO deactivated at the end of the ST, R2 wouldn't be the same without him. 3PO is one of the few characters to have been in every film so far and I would like it if that tradition continued for him and R2. If Anthony Daniels for any reason can't play 3PO anymore, I think having a new voice actor would be fine, as droids can obtain new voices. Also, plenty of other characters in the series have had multiple actors.

 

No, I think Disney will leave open the door for Episodes 10-12. I wonder though if any of the droids will get discombobulated at any point (only to be repaired and put back together later on). There is precedent although I can't remember if they sustained damage in the PT. I can see one of the two being out of commission for much of a film. While I'm on a stream of consciousness, I hope they don't introduce a third droid to join R2D2 and C3PO...like a female companion for R2D2. That would be too corny. Too Lucas-esque.

 

Remember, there is no reason why Episodes HAVE to come in packages of 3.

 

With SW, people are (not surprisingly) used to episodes coming in trilogies.

 

Judging by what was said at the time of the sale, SW1-9 will end the Saga episodes. There will probably be new gen or old republic or clone wars episodes, but they will have a subtitle and number like Star Wars: The New Republic Episode I and count up from there. They may not be trilogies either, they may be 1 shot spin-offs

R2 and 3PO won't be deactivated at the end of IX in any event. Lucas once said that at the end of IX it flashes forward to the droids telling the story to children.

 

C3PO will grow an awesome white beard and have a cane and talk like an old British person. "I say sonny Jim, it is high time for my afternoon oil bath *cough*"

 

There's no reason *anything* HAS to happen, it's just better that way. It's simpler and clearer to have the 3-act structure* correspond to three episodes, than to divided it up into more movies.

*the number 3 is not arbitrary. It corresponds to the most basic and natural way our minds order events (thesis, antithesis, synthesis)

 

I know, but they don't HAVE always come in trilogies moving forward. Disney could make Episode X with no plans for an XI.

First, what was said? Second even if that was said, they can change their mind any time they want too. For example, JK Rowling said for YEARS she was only going to do the 7 Harry Potter books and that was it. Well, now she writing more Harry Potter stuff for more money.

 

If anything, at least have him get hurt like in ESB.
