Wookiee life debts - Not binding?

I've got a "whatever happened to?" question.

At the end of TUF, both Lowie and Waroo pledge lifedebts to Han and Leia, but at the start of DN, Waroo's gone and Lowie's off becoming a Joiner. This has probably already been discussed but I can't find any information. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

 

Yeah, that always bugged me.

I guess Han and Leia didn't need the extra people hanging around the falcon, what with the Noghri and C-3PO so the Wookies were retrenched

 

I don't buy that. There were many times Han wanted Chewie to go away, yet Chewie stayed, due to the Wookie life debt. I don't think that it would be accpetable for Lowie and Waroo to just pick up and leave, as soon as Han and Leia ask. There has to be some other excuse.

 

Maybe Denning overlooked that.

 

Maybe the real Lowie and Waroo are DEAD.

Chewie owed Han what I'll term a "proximal" life debt. Han literally saved Chewie's life. Waroo and Lowbacca, however, owed him no such debt. In fact, given the events of the BF3, I'd say Waroo is one up on Han already. Their offer to assume Chewbacca's life debt was, no doubt, sincere, but probably also something Han could get around using some sort of Wookiee cultural technicality.

I thought it was they wanted to continue it but Han refused it?

 

It's pretty simple to answer for Lowie: the Jedi were hard pressed after the end of the Vong war, and he couldn't spare time to be doing the whole life debt thing.

 

I think Han tried to refuse it, but he gave in when he realized that they weren't taking no for an answer.

 

Sounds good to me: be a Jedi first, everything else after, even if that means forgoing something that has a lot to do with being a Wookiee.

Doesn't explain Waroo, though.

 

The answer is so painstakingly obvious...

Waroo has gone off to worship his namesake at the church of Waru.

 

I think he's too busy watching Boba Fett cartoons to worship Waru.

How do we know that Waroo is even alive?

 

Because there's nothing to suggest he's dead?

 

Except that last time we saw him he was supposedly taking his father´s place and now 5-6 years later in DN he was not around...

Yeah, but he was also absent for about a decade of EU prior to pledging the life debt. That didn't suggest death. It suggested...absence.

 

maybe Waroo had some surgery done and is actually Tarfang in disguise.
