Finally got the N-1. SolidOne, how on earth did you get the Falcon with such vague hints?

They're not that vague at all. In fact, once you've gotten it and realized how you got it, the hints become pretty obvious.

Do triple missiles do less damage to enemies behind others? I noticed that the front row usually dies first.

Just found the Falcon. Wow! :D High score 1060850

Triple missile damage is the same to every enemy.

The factors that can influence this are the armor of the ship behind (usually ships with higher armor are placed in the back), causing less net damage. Also the closer to the top of the screen the missile is, the faster it goes. Which means less time is actually spent hitting those ships in the back. If you haven't noticed already, the curve that they follow is a parabola (yes, math is actually used in this game).

EDIT: Oh yeah, the update that makes the falcon an automatic ticket to the cow level is now up. Though I wouldn't recommend sacrificing lives, since the 10k points awarded for them are worth much more than the number of points any sort of enemy or power up may give you. Not to mention the health bonus of not getting hit, which is quite substantial in later levels.

Yes, I can get it every time. My idea of how to get it was correct, but I overlooked my heavier stuff.

    just wondering-
does your game have rudder control, antilles? as in, can u yaw?

u c, i was raised on a series of flight sims and learned to become heavily dependent on the rudder...didn't like the original 3 x-wing games coz they didn't have it.

Nope, this is a pretty simple game so any features beyond what I already have would get pretty complicated. This sin't meant to be a flight simulator, more of a throwback to the classic old school arcade and nintendo games. While that might be a good idea for a third XvsTie game, I am not going to make one, at least not any time soon. I'll want to make it something much better than what I have now, and my current skills and/or ideas aren't up to the challenge. In XvsTie2 I was able to reuse about 50% of the code from XvsTie 1 and just modify it enough to fit the new system, but I want to try something brand new in whatever I do next.

This time I'm NOT lying about plans for another game. Jedi Wars will be the last one for awhile, since school is about to start and I'll have enough programming on my mind then to have to worry about doing it for fun. Only reason I made that one is because it struck me as a good idea and something fun to try (though all those graphics took me a HECK of a long time to make)

Oh yeah I may be releasing another game in additon to that. Its not new, I actually made it almost a year ago to date (XvsTie 1 was made last June... dang that seems like just yesterday), so this is one that i really wasn't lying about when i said no plans for a new game, since it isn't new. its basically just the old NES duck hunt game played with a mouse. It all depends if TFN lets me put it up.

Antilles58, what are the final stats for the Falcon? Powerups don't drop so often that late so I'm not sure.

    Final stats are:
    Power: 12
Armor: 10(btw, this allows you to take triple missiles)
    Speed: 14

YAY! I got the Falcon! You people made it seem like it would be hard to find. It is hard to get without dying though.

No it isn't. You just need to perfect your technique. Different techniques work better/worse/not at all depending on a few factors. I'll let you mess around and figure them out yourself. :)

The falcon, like the naboo fighter, isn't hard to find. The falcon is hard to get though, even if you know how, since you have to be very careful.

    A challenge:

You've all been able to beat the game pretty easily so far. Even getting the falcon. Pretty consistently with the Y-Wing as well. So how about mixing things up for a change?

First person to score over 1 million points using the X-wing or A-wing and posting a screen shot here gets to help play test my JediWars game. That means no naboo fighter, and no falcon, since your ship will be replaced by those. Take the screen shot at the end of the cow level. Remember that if you don't clear 1 million points before killing bill the bull, you may be pushed over 1 million by your health bonus. Take the screen shot while fighting him, and I will make all necessary additions. If you have enough points and are using one of those other two ships, you are the winner.

First person to send the picture to me at antilles58@hotmail.com wins!

EDIT: Actually, make that two winners. First person to make it with the X-Wing wins, and first person to make it with the A-Wing wins. You could try to be the first with both, but you can only win once, so the ship you first make it with is the one you'll get credit for. Pick your ship and start shooting!

That's going to be a REAL tough challenge. Just tried the X-Wing through and scored 684,850, losing both of the lives it would take to shoot me over 700,000 in the trench run.

Good. It should be tough. Thats the idea. High score races could could get dull ;) But it is definitely possible. You just have to get better at dodging and firing. Personally, i prefer the added speed of the a-wing and x-wing to the y-wing.

I've been away for a while, but it looks like people are getting the Falcon left and right. Can anyone help me get it? PM me, as not to clutter what has been posted over and over again but has become all jumbled up in my head.

689,150 X-Wing -- finished the Trench Run with all lives left, but it is a REAL bear to break that 700K barrier.

I was working with Armor of 3 until Level 8 because I kept getting Power and Speed drops. Makes it hard to aggresively pursue a lot of the smaller point drops.
