XXXIs anybody here Straight Edge?XXX

No drinking - Yup. I have a beer maybe once every few months. Just not a fan of alcohol. Plus my fiancé's grandfather is a reformed alcoholic, so she hates the stuff. Easy for me.
No smoking - Yup. I'm allergic to secondhand smoke, I don't wanna even try firsthand.
no drugs - Assuming the illegal varieties, yup. I really don't want to spend my existence poor and comtemplating the meaning of string.
no pre-marital sex - Virgin until July when I get married. After I'm married though...
no caffiene - Yup. Hate soda (both taste and the carbonation thing), hate coffee, though there is small amounts of caffiene in chocolate, and I love chocolate.
no pills of any sort, unless medically necessary - Eh... I have taken supplements before, plus Excedrin often for my crappy sinus headaches. Not medically necessary for survival, but they help.

Mostly straight edged. Comes from upbringing and moral obligation.

Anyway back to straight edge talk.

I remember having a bit of a row with my friend because we were talking about the whole straight edge thing and she then said "yeah, but you can smoke cigarrettes because everyone knows that cigs don't count." And I started yelling about how stupid that was, really raving like a monkey mama. We got over it right quick though.

 

Heh, reminds me, I've got a couple of straight edge friends who had a cool hardcore band ( http://www.purevolume.com/ratsofthecapital ). They've since disbanded though... the bass player is awesome. Although he gave up on the whole straight edge thing. The drummer still is though... he might join me and a friend in a new project later on.

I'm the opposite of straight edge, I smoke, do drugs (erm, harmless soft drugs of course ^_^), I drink, I engage in sexual affairs with girls yet I'm not married... oh, and I drink coffee and coke.

okay, Veganism is part of my lifestyle, and I don't wish to eat meat or dairy products, so yeah, I have to take vitamins. All vegans and vegetarians do. It's part of THAT lifestyle, and therefore doesn't mean that you are violating the straight edge lifestyle. And most people who claim to be straight edge are posers. really, they are.

I please ask that you do not joke around with the Jadehawk, or any of the people such as Davey Havok, Jade Puget, or the like, because, even if to you they are nothing, they are something in my opinion, and I wish for you to respect that. besides, I have a Jadehawk, and it's hard keeping that thing right.

Minor Threat is one of the bands I listen to, yes, and I respect them greatly, I respect AFI greatly.

AFI is vegan and straight edge, and I follow the same lifestyle, and I don't wish for you to trash mine and many other's lifestyles. I pay respect to yours and wish for you to do the same for me.

You pretty much do lead a "straight edge" life when you're young anyway. Seeing as you're NOT ALLOWED to do most of the stuff on that list.

I have some questions.

If one should fail at this "straight edge" thing before he/she knew what it was, could he/she start over again?

Is this why people who see my XXX tattoo ask me strange questions?

 

I don't agree with the idea of being straight edge. The only ones i've come in contact with in high school are very judgmental of people who are not staight edge. Most I knew were just having an identity crisis or were up set at there parents because they didn't get a car for their 16th birthday. It was kinda annoying. Those are just just the kids i knew.

I think that choosing a way of life and sticking with it is a good thing to do but I'm not sure what drives people to be straight edge other that they saw that the AFI guy was or the guy they like at school was. I say do want you want but don't be an ass about it. And, wine and beer can actually make you healthier if used in moderation.

One would quickly classify Straight Edge as just another mob 'individualist' lifestyle people will conform to for the same old textbook reasons, which it is - But this one's extra humorous due to it being all over the place. It has no real foundation. You have straight edge folk that will have sex, straight edge folk that will do soft drugs, like weed (because it's a plant) but not hard drugs, some will be vegetarian, others will be vagan, etc. It's a lifestyle rooted in a mediocre song by a decent band, a 'culture' in over it's head. It's people regretting the dumb ass triple-x tattoos they have on their bodies 30 years from now.

 

You know, cocaine addiction is part of my lifestyle, and I don't wish to quit it, so yeah, I have to take coke. All the cool kids do it. It's part of THAT lifestyle, and therefore doesn't mean that you are violating the straight edge lifestyle. And most poeple who claim to be straight edge are posers. Like me.

I please ask that you do not joke around with the rings around my eyes, or any of the people such as Kurt Cocaine and the like, because even if to you they are nothing, they are something in my opinion, and I wish for you to respect that. Besides, I have needle marks, and it's hard keeping them covered up.

Trippy music is what I listen to, yes and I respect it greatly, I respect psycadelics greatly.

While that was very impressive, I must state that I think it's a shame most people can't appreciate lifestyles other than their own. If being straight edge makes you happy, then go for it. If a slightly less restrictive lifestyle is what you want, then do that. If being a poser is satisfactory to you as a person, then be a poser. Just be happy, be good to the people around you, and cultivate joy. It's all about peace and love, man
