It occurs to me that ever last one of you has forgotten a little film called Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, which had darn realistic digital humans.

Dr. Sid from that movie is my nominee for best all-digital character in a film.

As I said before Whimper, I didn't inclued cartoons because they didn't have interaction with real live people and weren't in a real environment.

Yoda I think is the harder character to animate, they have to make him look like the Puppet and they exceeded my expectations completely. Its about neck and neck between Yoda and Gollum, with maybe Yoda just a little bit ahead. Although actually, if Jar Jar and Yoda didnt exsist, Gollum wouldnt look nearly as good as he does. Remember, PJ went to Lucas for advice and a little help!

    List goes like this:

    Yoda
    Gollum
    Jar Jar
    Watto
    Dexter
    Cave Troll
    Balrog
    Treebeard

Dobby sucked. He was just a smaller Jar Jar. Not original at all.

    and much much more. :D

I agree, Gollum was the best. But Yoda didn't have to interact with anyone too much which restricted him as well. That part where Gollum was fighting with himself was hilarious though. :D

Yoda, hands down. I feel cheated with Gollum, any amateur can make a realistic looking dark gray, fairly undetailed character like Gollum. It takes talent to have a realistic looking CG character that's green, with lots of detail and clothing as a main main character that you see a lot and involved in a major action sequence.

Gollum does look good, however, about 50% of the time, but Yoda squeaks by with a victory.

Gollum puts Yoda to shame. Well, Yoda the ESB muppet puts Yoda the CG character to shame, but let's not go there.

"Well, Yoda the ESB muppet puts Yoda the CG character to shame, but let's not go there. "

    thats how i feel.

and Gollum was pretty close to yoda. Jar Jar(tpm) was 10x better than dobby. He shouldnt even be mentioned. heck, if i dare say this, Scooby Doo did better.(and i didnt even see the movie)

Definately Gollum. I spent the entire time trying to nitpick the CGI, and I couldn't find much wrong with him :D Andy Serkis gave a GREAT performance there

Yoda was good, but he didn't blow me away the way Gollum did. The bouncing around, little-green-frog-on-steroids thing didn't really domuch for me.

    Dobby was just... average.

One little thing I'd like to point out about the SFX in TTT was Theoden's transformation. That was a brilliant piece of work from WETA :D So subtle... blink, and you'd have missed it.

Yoda is at a disadvantage because he isn't a new character. The best they can hope to achieve with Yoda is a perfect imitation of what he was as a puppet in the OT while Gollum's brand new. From a technical standpoint I'd say they're about even, with Yoda edging out Gollum on the basis of difficulty. But Gollum will win the award.

LOL, ok, you can include him.

How about the dragons in Reign of Fire?

They're more creatures than characters (though to be honest I still havn't seen it).

Well Roger Rabbit was animated the old fashioned way. The award was for "digital actor". So cartoons and creatures wouldn't count. And I think it's more of an acting award than a technical one.

I think Watto is the most realistic and best CG character ever made.

Well, since I have absolutely no interest in HP and have yet to see TTT, Id have to pick Yoda by default.

I have never been so emotionally effected by a CGI character as I was by Gollum. His humor, his cruelty, his tragedy... all expertly crafted by Andy Serkis and the Special Effects team.
The details of his appearance were amazing, down to the scars of the lashmarks (caused by his torture, no doubt) on his bare back. :(

CG Yoda ruined Yoda for me almost altogether. Although it was cool seeing him flip around and stuff.........part of the coolness of Yoda to me wasn't SEEING how he is the master.........but just KNOWING that he is. It's just in the back of your mind......"Don't mess with Yoda." We didn't really need to see him fight....

You'll never see yoda calling himself a murderer...lol.

    Gollum wins on performance alone.
