Yup, you're right. The TV shows and Netflix series don't need the MCU to be validated. However, there is less connectivity between the films and the small screen characters now. More importantly, the MCU has never really referenced anything from the TV shows. So, I don't think the MCU with use SHIELD's "Index" as a way to introduce mutants.

Again, I would prefer mutants to not be tied to aliens or anything cosmic, but rather the results of mankind messing around with science.

Yeah, Apocalypse is my favorite Singer-verse X-Men film because of the younger X-Men cast of Cyclops, Jean, Storm, Nightcrawler and Angel, as these characters were hopeful and had fun. Which is why I'm looking forward to the Dark Phoenix flick. The previous Singer-verse X-Men films, the character were moody.

It would be amazing if Brad Bird was given the helm to direct the Fantastic Four film whenever the rights revert back to Marvel. He certainly could make Reed's abilities look awesome, much Elastigirl in The Incredibles 2. I'm really looking forward to the F4 becoming part of the MCU, because the role they would play, which is a gateway to other dimensions and worlds, and with Xavier in the fold, the Marvel version of the Illuminati will be in play.

Anyway, speaking of the TV shows earlier:

Doesn't seem to actually have "every" character either. Hard to say for sure because it's disorganized, but unless I'm completely missing them, I don't see the two major cameos from movies we've had on AoS - Nick Fury and Lady Sif. I also don't see some of the more minor cameos AoS had, either. But again, hard to confirm because whoever made that was not concerned with ease of use.

Like you I have a lot of concerns about introducing the FF to the MCU. One, as you pointed out, is there already being a very good psuedo-take on them with The Incredibles. It would be easy for the FF to feel like a live action retread. And while I agree with you about Elastigirl serving as an effective template for Reed I'm a little concerned that ability might end up being something that just doesn't translate well to live action. It can be a little more ridiculous in animation in the attempt to look awesome and people will be more forgiving of that than in live action. And that doesn't even get into once you have Reed in the MCU, what about Ms Marvel? Does that get shelved due to the amount of overlap in their abilities?

And then there's the whole idyllic, 1960's nuclear family vibe that both properties have. The Incredibles can lean into that without seeming quaint due to being set in that time period. The FF won't benefit from that and with having already done "a man out of his time" with Cap I don't think they can go that route with FF and not have it feel repetitive. To take repetitive and circle back to Reed, the whole scientific genius who either is a superhero or is closely associated with them is well trodden territory in the MCU as well.

And while it's true they can serve as an avenue to space based stories and pull in other world or dimensions, they already have that as well with the Guardians, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, and more on the way with Captain Marvel and possibly The Eternals. It seems to me that FF's niche has been largely filled out by others in their absence and I have to admit to being at a bit of a loss on how to put them in the MCU in a way that will satisfy the fans of their source material while still seeming like something genuinely new for the MCU and the broader superhero movie landscape.

Though I will say, their cast of villains is badly needed.

Regarding FF, I personally think the best way would be to more or less film the Heroes Reborn version of the FF's origin.

Also regarding Reed so would I think that keeping him as the [dramatic voice] Actiooon Scieeeentist [end of dramatic voice] that he was in the original stories would make him a bit different from the other super scientists in MMU (ignoring young Hank Pym, but he is not young any more), possibly giving him an "old school academic" air could also differ him a bit.

I would love a point in the MCU where we don't need origins or backstories.

Scene: Spider-man is fighting a water based villain that just shows up in New York. He can complain about more people taking the train and less taking the ferry and that really makes him mad. The Human Torch shows up, helps him capture the villain, and then leaves. Maybe you see him again in the film; maybe you don't. Spidey can quip about cosmic rays during the fight. Then as Johnny departs, Peter could say "Tell Mr Richards, I said hello and I'll have my essay for him tomorrow." So now we know a lot of information: The FF exist in universe in New York, Reed Richards is a professor and Peter Parker has his class, and they were exposed to cosmic rays at some point and that's how they got their powers.

Well, it was actually @FatBurt that noted his concerns of the Fantastic Four being compared The Incredibles entering into the MCU.

I'm not too concern with a live action Reed being all stretchy stretch like Elasigirl because of a couple of things. (1) Marvel Studios have done a wonderful job adapting a character's power from the comic book page to the silver screen, and (2) The CW DCTV The Flash, did a wonderful job with their stretchy super hero, Ralph Dibny aka Elongated Man, in showing his powers.

I think with The Incredibles and Ralph Dibny on The Flash awesome takes on the super stretch powers, Marvel Studios will come up with something fantastic for Mr. Fantastic. As for how to incorporate the family element in Fantastic Four? Well, I was watching a YouTube video yesterday by Grace Randolf (of her fancasting of the F4), and she noted that Netflix's Lost In Space kind steals or is an example (I can't remember which) how to create a family dynamic for Marvel's First Family. Now, I've binged the entire first season of Lost In Space and I could see a lot of parallels that can be drawn to the F4, especially in regards to creating that strong family dynamic. But, the MCU doesn't need to look beyond it's own universe, as Guardians of the Galaxy has already shown the way.

Now, @Bilbo Fett you to bring up an intriguing idea of "idyllic 1960's nuclear family" for the F4, in that Marvel could easily set the first family in that era, much like Captain America: The First Avengers was set in the 1940s and the upcoming Captain Marvel is set in the 1990s. I mean, just set the F4 in the 1960s and let them stay there, much like the Peggy Carter TV series. But, I think that's very doubtful. Which is why I love the premise and approach of the 2015 Fant4stic, which was more grounded in reality, had a certain level of horror and more scifi focused that the previous Tim Story versions. When Marvel incorporates the Fantastic Four, I hope is a perfect blend of The Incredibles and Fant4stic. And I think that were the team would be able to distinguish itself from Guardians, Ant-Man and Doctor Strange, and that they are explorers both in space and dimensions, as the others are not really explorers but more of protectors. The Negative Zone has yet to be introduced to to the MCU, nor the world beneath the surface; all niches for the F4 to explore.

Yeah, I think that's the way to go with Reed, an "old school academic" where he's not interested in making money like Tony Stark or creating tech for government/SHIELD like Hank Pym did initially, but just for the sake of science and understanding. Additionally, Reed could be a little aloof and not keen on social cues, something of a Sheldon from the Big Bang Theory; where he's unintentionally funny so he's not cracking jokes all the time like the others, Shuri included. And that's what Johnny is for anyway. I definitely see Reed as the classic "Big Brain" type of character.

The further away from this, the better...

Yeah, I would agree with you on origin stories. I like how the MCU handled Spidey's introduction as well as Black Panther. However, I don't think that will be case with the Fantastic Four. It would be nice, but I think we'll have to get an origins story or at least a solo film for their first appearance. I don't think the F4 could just show up in a Spider-Man film or another MCU film. I think the importance of the characters and the failures of the previous films are cause for a ground level reboot.

I forgot about how well the Flash did Dibny.

and if the MCU can deliver FF in the way that Brad Bird gave the Incredibles I'll be happy.
In fact as has been stated elsewhere, See if they can get Bird to direct the first FF MCU movie

Also agree that they would need to be a reboot too. The previous history is just too poisonous, especially the most recent one.

As far as FF, give me Doom, Galactus, and the potential for the Council of Reeds, and/or Ultimate Reed and Namor too, that would be golden.

My favorite element of FF are the villains.

    Me too.

Right, but Fury and Maria haven't been around since "Age Of Ultron". "Infinity War" is the first appearance since then "Captain Marvel" will have Fury and Coulson. It is possible that the index is mentioned.

Maybe a bit like Avengers: Earth Mightiest Heroes' Hank Pym who was joyfully commenting and analysing everything scientific or technological they found/fought against.

Something I hope they don't do is going the Ultimate FF and Fant4stic rut and have Reed as some kind of boy genius or bullied nerd

It wasn't terrible, just average. It had some highlights in giving us stuff closest to the comics/cartoons that we've never seen properly in the films before (astral battles, the Phoenix firebird, Psylocke being all badass, etc), but was let down by a weak take on Apocalypse himself, amongst other quibbles more minor.

However, the undisputed best part of this film was the title sequence. :)

Re: Ultimate Reed and bullied nerd, yeah I get that. Please no Sheldon though. An older take on Ultimate Reed could be interesting (or the Council of Reeds as baddies), but really FF works for because of the great villains. Selfishly, I want to see Doom, Galactus, the Wizard and Namor.:D

Better than the prologue itself or Quicksilver saving the school?

(I will say it was one of the better title sequences -- although I might give X-Men Origins: Wolverine credit as the best -- but I think that Days of Future Past has the best arrangement of the main theme.)

I totally agree. Doctor Doom is the crown jewel of the Marvel villains, and to have that character in the MCU will be marvelous. And I would suspect that the MCU would actually make Doom a ruler of his own Eastern European country, Latveria. Perhaps a neighboring country to Sokovia. I read some online fan thoughts of Latveria being a country that share a border with Sokovia and with the events from the Age of Ultron, Doom rises to power and builds up Latveria defenses. There are numerous ways for Doom to be a villain in the MCU, and I hope they go with the despot of Latrveria angle. I really didn't like the Lex Luthor spin on the character in the Tim Story versions of the Fantastic Four and the hacker (IIRC) from the 2015 Fant4stic.

On a side note, I kind want to see the version of Doom where he's so vain that the reason why he wears a mask is cover his one small blemish of a tiny scar on his cheek, rather than having like a full blown case of the uglies like Wade Wilson/Deadpool's face.

I think that just adds so much more depth and nuance to the character.

Yeah, Apocalypse was terrible, but in terms of X-Men lore, he's like a Thanos type of character; with his Four Horsemen and omnipotent power . And they character was portrayed in the film lack any real depth or nuance. I mean, to make the character more imposing and ominous, Oscar Issac would start to raise his voice and start shouting. Bryan Singer really couldn't convey Apocalypse in the manner that Matthew Vaughn did with Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw or Michael Fassbender as Magneto in X-Men: First Class. Apocalypse played out more like a plot device than an actual character.

To be honest, I never read any of the Ultimate Marvel until it was on its last legs. However, I did get a good idea about Ultimate Reed in the 2015 Secret Wars crossover event. I like that character. And of course, I would not want a carbon copy of Sheldon, but some of Sheldon's characteristics of being super smart, a bit aloof but has some charm and heart.

And yes, Namor is a must, as I love the monkey wrench he is with his arrogance and advances with Sue.
