Yuuzhan Vong Racism Derived from Earth?[Sensative conversationing]

"Go Get Those Scarheads" Someone says. Something along those terms at least. "Scarheads" sounds alot like how I've heard people call Taliban and, some of the more stupider people I know who now have their head beat in, other Afghanistans "Ragheads" and "Towelheads". Thats also got to do with another thing I've noticed about a book mentioning ing the Yuuzhan Vong wearing Turbans. The Scarhead mentioning I've seen most in is in SbS, which came out a few days after 9-11.

Now some american authors decided to take out their hatred fro the terrorists who did this to america in a subtle way... I've got my fencing class armour on and sabre at ready with my old foil in my bag, I'm ready to get what you tihnk of this.

 

It's nothing new. People have been using derogatory terms for their enemies since language has been around.

 

It took the event's of the 11th to make you realize these things appear in Star Wars? I'd heard the term "raghead" well before the 11th and am well aware of racism against arabs exsisting. Racism in SW isn't something new, but more folks may notice it because of recent events.

Oh, and most of us had to wait until October for SbS to come out, not a few days after the 11th.

 

oh, then I was wrong,with the dates, and I meant racism to EARTH COUNTRIES used through SW.

 

Star by Star was completely written long before September 11th and was already getting the final touches just prior to printing. The author was finished by the time those events occured. The Earth culture that the Yuuzhan Vong are drawn from is the Aztec culture, not the Taliban or middle eastern cultures.

 

You'll also notice that Han(?) tells some of the kids not to use that term in Rebel Dream. Just pointing that out.

 

I think that racism is the stongest subject in star wars

 

Real life rascism has been used as a basis for Star Wars racism long before the NJO began. If you would like, I can always bring up the term "squidheads", which basically tends to be a racist term for the Quarren.

 

I personally think bureaucratic and administrative corruption is the strongest theme.

 

I am open with racism, the Vong resemble the radical muslim population in ways, but also differ.

By making a foe less than you or your side, it becomes easier to destroy them. When the Japanese held the coast of China after taking Korea and Manchuria, renaming it Manchukuo and putting the last Chinese Emperor, Pu-Yi, on the throne there, the Japanese made sure their soldiers 'knew' the Chinese were inferior to them, even to the point where it became a contest to see how many one could behead with their officer's katana.

I don't think I need to detail what how the Germans did it, but suffice it to say that Hitler pretty much picked up on the anti-semitism while living in Vienna where it bubbled away fiercely. Hence when WWI started he joined the German army instead of his native Austria's because shorty didn't like all of the other races that it comprised. Check out 'Triumph of the Will' a Nazi propanda film if you really want to understand nationalism and the evils that it brings.

 

The vong aren't based on any single religious group...they are just your generic religious fundamentalists......as can be seen in most major religions...

Racism is a strong theme in Star Wars, just look at the Emperor's policies. The fact that everyone thinks all the Vong should be destroyed is another part of that.

 

I would bring up the fact that Jews fought in the German army in WWI, some even winning the Iron Cross. However, they were among the first blamed for Germany lossing that war.

 

From what I've seen and read in the NJO, the entire conflict is based off of the recent events in the middle east.

I also agree with many of the things stated above, such as how derogitory terms for the enemy have been used since the beginning of warfare.

Besides, the VONG are scarheads.

 

Although the similarities are there, I would like to once again point out that the Middle East thing is just a coincidence. The NJO has been going on for much longer than the new war on terrorism.

 

EU is not and will never be political commentary, nor will it ever contain satirical symbolism. In wars in the past in the GFFA there have always been labels like "rebel scum" or "imp." Of course there are going to be labels like "vong" or "scarhead" for extra-galactic invaders. Feel free to question the ethics, but this tactic definitely helps morale.

So far I haven't found out about any races in the Yuuzhan Vong, which makes sense because rascism is an invention of government. There is discrimination against different ethnic groups both in the GFFA and on Earth. However, there is no direct correlation between the two. There has always been discrimination between ethnic groups, generalized to contain whole species, in the GFFA. The NJO has brought about new stereotypes, but there have been little changes in attitude.
