Oh, yeah, the Game Trailers Retrospective series on Zelda is excellent- I wish i could get it (and the Metroid one) on DVD or something. I don't agree with the split-timeline theory (especially retroactively applying it in a manner that splits games that were probably meant to reference each other), but it is an interesting one.
The Matrix trilogy was airing on TBS yesterday and I caught bits and pieces of it. What got my attention, something I forgot about, was that the new operator on the Nebuchadnezzar was Link. His wife was Zee. Is it confirmed anywhere that the writers were paying homage to Link and Zelda?
I always took the name Link to be short for "Uplink" or to mean that he was their "link" to the outside world when they were in the Matrix and not necessarily a reference to Zelda but I did consider it. Although the fact that his wife was named Zee never hit me until now.
So I had let my cousin borrow my GameCube Zelda collector's disc (which included OoT, MM, LoZ I & II) and he lost it. My aunt said she'll replace it, but it looks like Amazon.com only has mint copies selling for around $100. Ebay is roughly the same, though there are some sellers apparently selling it for around $20 (but I'm skeptical as to the quality of these). My copy was in excellent condition, original packaging and original materials, etc, so obviously I want an exact replacement. Any ideas? Should I just ask my aunt to go for the $100 copy on Amazon (which she obviously doesn't want to do)?
Well, if you want to be absolutely positively certain that you get everything in pristine condition then it looks like buying it new will be your only option. However, it's been my experience on amazon that the seller ratings are pretty accurate. If you don't want to shell out 100 bucks then I'd go for one of the used ones coming from a seller that has excellent seller ratings.
Well, yeah- someone other than you should be responsible for paying for the replacement, whether they do it themselves or have you buy it and they reimburse you.
Played a bit more of Phantom Hourglass yesterday. I'll tell ya, that 1st person Boss POV battle was awesome and one of the most creative and original uses of the dual screens I've had the pleasure of playing. Now it's onto the Ghost Ship! EDIT- Also: A Link to the Past Easy Mode
That's awesome. They always have funny comics. I don't think I've ever seen them do a song. I loved when Ganondorf smacked Kaepora Gaebora with the Triforce.
That was awesome. Adding that to my xmas geek playlist. This video on College Humor is also pretty good- turns out Zelda and Peach get captured on purpose.
Fan art in honor of the 25th anniversary of Zelda, brought to us by an amazing artist from Japan: http://steam-punk.net/zelda_25th_anniversary.jpg Seriously: MIND = BLOWN.
OH. MY. GOD. That's...amazing. (though it's a nitpick, given the wide variety of characters there- I'm really surprised there's no Triforce anywhere in there)
Wicked. Awesome. Look closer at Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf. It's within their hands. But yeah, you think there would be a more physical manifestation.
For a moment I thought they had conveniently forgotten Navi, but then I noticed her with the other fairies. No Sheik though... I love the Fierce Deity and Dark Links down by the wolf. Seriously this artwork is amazingly awesome. Every character looks great and the artist did a great job of combining the various games into one representation. It's also hard to believe that this franchise is 25 years old. And are those three figures at the top supposed to be the goddesses? I can't really tell. Otherwise great picture.
Yep, those are the goddesses in their Oracle forms: Farore, Nayru, Din. In fact, I've actually compiled a list of all the characters in this picture, going left to right, top to bottom: 1. Farore 2. Nayru 3. Din 4. Kaepora Gaebora 5. Rauru 6. Impa 7. Saria 8. King of Hyrule 9. Nabooru 10. Ruto 11. Darunia 12. Link (with Master Sword) 13. Zelda (with Arrows of Light) 14. Appreciate that- I was about to say that middle section with all the village-esque characters from (presumably) Twilight Princess is where I go cross-eyed for a bit. And somehow I didn't even see the Termina Moon till you mentioned it. The inclusion of the Windfish, trident and Sahasrahla made me grin when I first saw the artwork. Just great compositions and character groupings. Plus the goddesses are depicted vague enough that I can take this as a definitive depiction of all these characters while continuing my insistence on ignoring the OOT/OOA/OOS color association retcons. What's the giant evil eyeball towards the bottom, though? I lost my place in your list of recognizable character names so I can't tell by the order.
Funnily enough, Termina's Moon was the first thing I recognized. When I first saw this pic, I thought it was just some really deep look at human mythology and folklore. Then as I started scrolling, I thought, "Hey, what's the moon from Majora's Mask doing here?" *keep scrolling* "Wait, those are Gorons..." *scroll back, with apprehension dawning* "HOLY ****!" Hmmmm... What is this color association retcon of which you speak? And the giant eyeball is Bellum, final boss of PH. At first I thought it was Vaati or one or Gohma's incarnations. But the teeth around the eyeball are the giveaway--it's almost certainly Bellum. A very creepy, realistic take on Bellum, at that. EDIT: Another interesting side note--everyone below Ganon's beast form is an incarnation of some kind of Link (most specifically the Hero of Time) or in the case of his mother, the one who gave this particular Link life.
Yeah, that bottom array of characters is the best example of the character groupings. And my first guess was Gohma for the eye, but since I haven't finished PH, that would explain it. As for the color association issue- I refer to how, until OOT, the Triforce of Wisdom was associated with the color green, and Courage with blue (Power remains red across the board). Then OOT did the one cutscene of the three Goddesses and swapped their color associations, which was followed by subsequent appearances such as OOS/OOA. So, since Wisdom=Green/Courage=Blue was ingrained in me for more than a decade and a half (as I didn't actually realize they had swapped the colors until the early/mid 2000's), it's something that just really bugs me and I choose to ignore as a widespread mistake (even though, with OOT being the beginning and be-all-end-all when it comes to modern gamers' exposure to the series, I'm in the definite minority of those that would be inclined to agree with me). Of course, my position is weakened given that the primary source of the original color associations were established by the cartoons, not the original 4 games (but those all used the generic/combined yellow for all of them and, thus, lacked any color association). But, dammit, that was a big part of the original Zelda craze that ingrained enduring concepts like that into the series- so there was no reason, for over 10 years, to think of the color association as being anything else other than what the cartoon depicted. [image=http://www.zeldacapital.com/LOZAnimatedTitleScreen.jpg] [image=http://www.zeldawiki.org/images/thumb/5/56/Triforce_%28Captain_N%29.png/180px-Triforce_%28Captain_N%29.png] [image=http://www.northcastle.co.uk/archive/cartoon/cast_power.jpg] [image=http://dumbbaby.net/a/i/304/15.jpg] It still perplexes me why they even changed it. Why use the same 3 colors and only do it 1/3rd right?
Maybe because Link gains the courage part and his garb being predominantly green they did't want to confuse anyone. Most of the hero's wear the green clothes so its an easy association for that being the colour of courage EDIT: Also my local electronics retailer JB Hi-Fi are taking pre orders for the new Skyward Sword game. So its not long til it's released is it?
Making of the art piece the text commentary is in Japanese however. The creator is called ag+ and thisis his pixiv profile (pixiv is basically the Japanese version of deviantart) As far as I can the only other Zelda related art he made is a close up shot of Saria
True, but that's not every game (albeit, now, it tends to be most games). In the original game, it was the Triforce of Wisdom that Link had to acquire (and he may or may not have still had it in Zelda 2?).
That could be why the cartoon associated the green with wisdom then, if there was no other reference to link gaining the triforce of courage
