Why does everyone like Calvin and Hobbes so much? Yeah, I liked it, when I was 9, but it gets way too boring after only just a little while. I'm not saying it sucks, just, for how many gushers it has, I've never seen it as very good.

Calvin and Hobbes is easily the greatest comic strip ever. Zits is one of the better ones out there today, although I'd rank Dilbert and Fox Trot above it. I also find myself frequently enjoying One Big Happy and Jump Start, to name a couple of less frequently praised strips.

Because it's generally hilarious and more often than not, it's very intelligent, too. A lot of times there's some sort of underlying philosophical deal or something, but at the same time, there are just as many that are just plain fun. It appeals to a much wider audience than Far Side or Zits and it can be appreciated at face value just as well as on other levels.

I'd imagine someone who is more articulate could say it better than me, but that's my take.

    Amazing.

I've always seen Bloom County/Outland as far more philosophical and far more hilarious than Calvin and Hobbes, yet it has half of the amount of fans Calvin and Hobbes does. My only theory for this is a presence of more 'mature' humor in Bloom County.

I expect Calvin and Hobbes had a much wider circulation than Bloom county did. I love Calvin too, but how could you not love Opus? ;)

I think Zits is great. Boondocks is probably my favorite comic strip going right now though.

Come to think of it, Bob the Angry Flower is a good one, too:

Zits and Get Fuzzy are the only comics in my paper that are always funny, day by day, every day.

Foxtrot is frequently funny, and it's got the Star Wars references, which is always good.

Doonesbury is frequntly funny, but then somtimes is stupid. But I like how up-to-date he always is.

B.C. is good for it's religious and right-wing content, always good to hear a Christian side of things in the paper.

Dilbert is funny most of the time, has some clunkers, and has some really really funny ones. I do like Scott Adams for his 2 of 6 rule of humour, that he talks about in great detail in his book 'The Joy of Work.'

Comics that are complete crap: Hagar the Horrible, Peanuts, Wizard of Id, Kudzu (usually), Blondie, Garfield.

Edit: PvP and Penny Arcade are better than all those, though.
