Yeah, Qui-Gon's a really good character. It would have been great to see him as a force ghost in the films, even though they did it on one episode of TCW. At least he had a line in AOTC, I remember the first time I heard that I thought we'd get more of him.

Liam Neeson is one of, if not my all time, favorite actors. So Qui-Gon was really cool to me!

When I heard Liam was casted as a Jedi in 1999, I thought it was awesome. Yet, over time, I prefer Qui-Gon according to fanfic.

 

May I ask what you prefer about fanon Qui-Gon? And which version of fanon Qui-Gon? Some of the Obi-Wan fangirls' portrayals of Master Jinn, in the period immediately post-TPM, were really very harsh, I've always thought

(I'm asking as someone who cut her teeth on ye olde qui-gonline's excellent -- and sadly missed -- fanfic archive, but loves Liam's portrayal too.)

@Cael-Fenton: I prefer the fanon Qui-Gon where he treats Obi like a son. I used to really like Liam but Qui-Gon started to turn me off him. For Cushy stoic and cold doesn't suit either the man or the character.

 

Yes! Qui-Gon was instantly my favorite character the first time I saw The Phantom Menace. I've lost count of how many times I've used quoted, "the ability to speak does not make you intelligent", mostly under my breath, but still. I was going NOOOOOOO with Obi-Wan when he died. The Phantom Menace was the first movie I've ever seen with Liam Neeson in it, so now every time I see a movie with him in it I go, LOOK EVERYONE IT'S QUI-GON! Can't help myself. Now I need to pick up any EU books with him in it, because there's just not enough of him in the movies. Any suggestions for those would be great, by the way.

 

I think the Jedi Apprentice series is the one about Qui as Obi's Master.

I went through the star wars wiki page on Qui-Gon once, the (supposedly) "canon" side, and I sat there for like two hours reading through it. It was extremely confusing and hard to follow, but gives a lot more insight and information about him and his relationship with Dooku, Obi-Wan, Anakin, his first apprentice who's name I can't remember (starts with an X), Yoda, Jar Jar, and all those other various characters that I can never hope to remember the names of specifically. That's a good place to go if you don't want to tackle the hordes of EU material. It has spoilers for everything though, of course.

 

Personally I don't have any money to spare to buy all those books.

There must be one somewhere because the star wars wiki page has a lot of EU stuff about Count Dooku and Qui-Gon from when they were master and apprentice. At least, it does to the best of my memory, which is somewhat unreliable.
