Oceania 2005 Footy Tipping Competition

(Note: this is primarily for AFL, but if there's enough interest I'll be happy to start up an NRL comp as well.)

I thought we might as well have a bit of friendly competition here, so I'm getting this started up before the season starts good and proper to gauge if people are interested. Standard format - each round, you pick who you think the winner of each game will be, and the person who got the most right at the end of the season wins. I may even be able to organise some sort of fantastic internet messageboard prize!

Anyway, if you're interested in joining, just let me know here. There's not enough sport in this forum anymore, gosh darn it!

The great thing about footy tipping is that the guy who makes random guesses wins in most cases. I predict that I, on the other hand, shall come last.

It will just be a waste of time everyone knows the Freo Dockers are going to win the flag. They may as well cancel the season because its a fore-gone conclusion!!!!!

As good as it would be to see the Dockers triumph over all, I think it's a little early in the year to make a call like that.

Not only is the taking top thing off banned now but what's wrong with some celebration?
I mean, it actually takes skill to kick a goal in real football.

 

While I think the argument won't go anywhere, niether side will convince the other. I do have to agree about the goal kicking.

In fact, aussie rules is the only game where you go for a goal and you miss, its: "Oh well, we'll give you a point for trying."

 

To me, headbutting a round ball into a net guarded by a skilled goalie after intercepting a corner kick...well that's just pure skill.
There isn't anything in AFL that comes close.

Im in. Best time of the year is footy season, so Im in for either AFL or NRL.

 

Whilst I agree with you in the merits of the roundball game SoE, until the Hyundai A-League is truly up and running, I'm afraid it wouldn't be much of a tipping comp. When it does though, go the Queensland Roar!!!(formerly Brisbane Strikers)In the meantime, the two top football codes in this country are still the AFL and the NRL, and I say bring it on.

I'll do it. I know more about NRL than AFL though.. we sponsor the Sea Eagles and the Dragons and hold a cheerleading comp every year.. and that's about the extent of my knowledge
