Please tell me this is a Halloween trick. [face_praying] Episode 7? Given TCW's track record, I can't help be think this could be the end of post-RotJ EU. :(

Welp, reboot for the EU seems inevitable now. I guess it's now time to embrace separate continuities. On the other hand, the Big 3 are too old to do more Star Wars movies, so maybe it won't be so bad. Right?

    Right?

    Right?

It's been a pleasure serving with all of you. We've had a great run. And we have nothing to be ashamed of.

Well, I didn't quite expect this news. Especially the "EPISODE VII?!" part. After Episodes I, II and III not sure I want VII.... Not even sure how they can do another Episode in another... three years? Although with Disney that might mean more financial backing for an Episode VII, but still, very worried.

Might as well brace for whatever is going to happen to post-RotJ EU. As if it wasn't in bad enough shape already.

So wonder if this means TCW will move to one of the Disney Channels now.

Now this is a disaster. I thought TCW was the bottom of the pit, but LFL has proved me wrong once again...
I guess I'll have to become a full Trekkie.

I don't know how you can grain of salt an official press release.

We can only hope that Disney treats it with respect. I mean, we've always wanted Lucas to get his paws off of SW... maybe this is a good thing? Well, the movies thing is kind of... insane though.

The funny thing is, this could be great for the franchise from a movie standpoint - Marvel proves that much. But I have a hard time seeing the EU survive this. They'll definitely want to keep a coherent continuity going forward...but the past 30 years' worth? Who can say?

    Wait...
What if Disney actually made a good and faithful movie adaptation of some EU novel?

Oh, Lord, who am I kidding? We're doomed.

I'm expecting overwriting large swaths of it. And given the OT-and-after period is pretty much the backbone of the EU (as in the vast bulk of the stories told and etc), I'm expecting massive repurcussions.

    Bleh.

It might not be the end of the EU as we know it... oh, who am I kidding, of course it is. Unless they somehow do a giant CG adaptation of Dark Empire or Thrawn trilogy, but I really doubt they have good enough taste for that. Especially with Disney backing them now, a Dark Empire adaptation is even more impossible than before. Well, Marvel has been doing pretty good, but even if Disney didn't interfere with Lucasfilm much, I'm not expecting much from an Episode VII. Live action or CG... honestly not sure what direction they would go with these days, after TCW and Detours (hope that is still coming) and with the live-action series sometime in the future.

Honestly I first thought it was April 1st and I had forgotten what month it was when I saw the news, but various big sites seem to be reporting it as legit.

Can we hope that the screenplay is written by Fry and or Wallace, Luceno, Pena?

There's basically one hope here: that the prospect of a Ben Skywalker trilogy is more appealing to them than trying to recast the OT (or worse, using Hamill and Fisher). Then it'd be up to whether or not they still want to use the Empire.
