    Braver than Most
    Main Characters: Ezra, Vader
(Inspired by that odd little conversation Vader had with Ezra in Twilight of the Apprentice

    {During the Events of Malachor, after the BattleStations Awakening}
    [Vader]

It frustrated him. That look. As his Advanced Tie began descending to the platform where the source of the battle station had been awoken, he simply stared at the child, the Jedi Padawan, letting the silence speak for himself. That had originally been the plan to silently kill him. Why should he waste his breath on someone this miniscule? His decision had remained firm.... until the child had noticed his presence. Until he gave Vader that....look. Vader clenched his in frustration and jumped off the his veichele.

The boy took a step back, but not out of fear.Vader tapping into the Force, watched the actions of the boy carefully in those few seconds It seems that "Jedi" has taught the boy well enough in combat considering the amount of time and the amount of experience. The boy is clearly re-positioning himself for combat. The question is... should I even waste my rage and power to indulge this child's fatalistic insanity? Vader darkly mused as he stepped forward.
Vader then looked to where the holocron was and then back at the child. This child was a Jedi. Something wasn't making sense. Anger began to build in the pit of his stomach. He didn't like it when things didnt make sense. It meant he wasn't in full control of the situation.

He DESPISED that even more. But as his rage grew, so did his intrigue. A Jedi Padawan had obtained a Sith Holocron, which should already be impossible. But in order to activate the Station, the Presence itself would have to had seen this Jedi worthy of the power of a Sith. These questions demanded answers.

"You have unlocked the secret of this temple. How did you accomplish this?" Vader said cooly, marching forward with his ignited blade, withholding all the anger that was begining to build up. The boy jumped back as Vader swung first, successfully dodging it, and then immediatly activated his saber to block Vader next slash. The look in eyes hadn't changed, except now his eyes were sharply focused, and filled with defiance. This addition was NOT a welcome change.

"Your so smart you figure it out!." The boy spat back at Vader as both began clashing blades. Vaders frustration grew with each clash. The boy was obviously using all the knowledge he had in saber combat, and he was only barely able to defend against Vader. And Vader wasnt even putting real effort into this. His frustration was growing more into rage at the boys continued useless defiance. The intrigue he had moments ago were gone, replaced with apathy. This boy wasnt worth keeping alive. This fight would be over soon.

"No matter. The power within will soon serve the Emperor." Vader said coldly. In response the boy looked directly Vader, directly where his eyes would be underneath the armor. Vader saw an oppurtuinty to kill the boy, as his lower half was in a postion were it could be sliced through. The boy was quick, but Vader would always be quicker. But he didn't. The force was surrounding the boy in that split second, and as he stared down Vader, every word he spoke resonated within Vader's head.

"I don't fear you." It wasn't spoken with an ego, or spoken in rage, it was just honest. This boy had seen his actions once prior before, has probably been informed of what he is by his master, and if Vader's intel was right, had never dueled another forcewielder one on one before.

So why does he look at me like I'm an annoyance. This boy can't be that foolish. Why does he look at me like I'm the one who will die here. Why hasn't he accepted death?

All these thoughts raced through Vader in half a second before he responded.

"Then you will die braver than most." He said his rage finally taking over. This boy had outlived his intriuge. He attacked quickly, pushing the boy back, and then disarmed him, destroying the boy's saber. What legacy these foolish Jedi were trying to build with this boy, would end him dying at the heart of a Sith temple. Fitting.

But then Ahsoka spoke. And then everything burned,.

    AN:
Yeah since this just meant to be me wondering what Vader internal thoughts and reactions were to Ezra actually being suicidal enough to challenge him. So yeah, the ending kinda sucks, but the point of this is for me to test my Vader writing, and to see if I can keep him mostly in character.

    So.... PLEASE FEEDBACK. REVIEW IT

Incredible insights into Vader's mind. I loved this scene (such epic dialogue) and I really enjoyed how you transferred it into a written medium.

Great to see a Rebels story here! (Love that show. :D) Ezra must be a little confusing to the Vader types; in a way he's so inexperienced that he has no sense of scale. Like a Chihuahua that thinks he's a Rottweiler. Of course, there does seem to be some reason for him to be that way -- while he's a newbie, he also doesn't have some of the limitations that knowing one's limitations can impose. And he's a determined kid. ;)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with abrupt endings. Perhaps the last two sentences would look even more poignant if each one was on its own line, but this kind of a story goes hand-in-hand with an abrupt ending! Not only that Ezra is clearly tempting the fate here, but Vader himself might as well be flirting with two possibilities. And he might not even be aware of that!

    P.S.

Um, sorry, but my dog is a peke-a-pin and she thinks she's a doberman!
