Especially since Hux came off as being so much more competent (and correct) than Ren. You really had to take your hat off to the guy .. I do think though, that by VIII, one way in which we will see the evolution of the main villain (Kylo), is by the altered dynamics between the him and Hux. Hux and Kylo will either be on a more respected partnership or .. (my guess), Kylo will have evolved to deadly calmness such that he genuinely intimidates Hux.

No comment on poor Captain Mitaka. Or Millicent.

In other non-Earth shattering news from a GFFA, Hux will apparently be still in the same FO general uniform (with that snappy greatcoat) as in VII - per Mark Hamill in his Oxford interview.

Honestly, even though he is playing a Spce-Nazi (since they used actual National Socialist rallies as the backdrop for the actual ruddy scene), I actually felt a soft spot for him .. he was so damn .. happy .. that tear in his eye shortly before the good citizens of Hosnian Prime were obliterated from all existence.

You have to concede that in VII anyway, he is a very good eh.. general.

I like Domnhall Gleeson, he did an excellent Job portraying Mr. Crazy Pants General Hux. Hopefully in VIII he will have more screentime.

He looks like he's having an almost religious experience, or getting very aroused. Honestly at this point I find him more "sympathetic" and am more invested in his possible "redemption" than Kylo's.

Hux is actually one of the most popular characters in the fandom, and the most popular 'ship' pairs him and Kylo romantically. I do wonder if that fan interest will lead to his getting a more prominent role in VIII, though I struggle to see how they could make time for that.

I must say that I'm curious to see what the fan reaction will be to Hux's inevitable death, especially in the very likely scenario where Kylo kills him.

Yep, that's pretty much what I expect. While Hux is absurdly popular within fandom, I'm pretty sure GA will be glad to see him get his thoroughly well-deserved comeuppance.

I'm not sure why you're so intent on belittingly the tumblr fandom. The Star Wars fandom on tumblr is far larger than the SW fandom on this message board, so it's only insignificant if you also agree that this message board and the views represented on it are insignificant.

When the only reason you're popular is because tumblr fangirls like to draw fanart of Kylo and Hux making out, you might not be as popular as you think you are.

How dare you! There's much more to Kylux than two hot young guys making out! There's Millicent, cross-stitch, administrating the First Order, etc. etc. It's all entirely legitimate and above board.

    * From a certain point of view.

One do the things I did like about both Hux and Ren casting was that both guys are so clearly young and somewhat immature. I mean, we all know that Kylo seems to have not quite evolved out of his teenage-emo phase, but even Hux, for all his projection of authority and clear command, still seems like an over-eager grad-student of evil. Gleeson puts such a youthful energy and enthusiasm behind his speech that it's clear this guy just isn't really aware of how the Universe actually works. Tarkin, Pestage, all those guys clearly had a "I know that what I'm spouting is BS, but it's what gets me ahead in this game" kind of attitude. Both Ren and Hux are true believers, with Ren seeming brainwashed while Hux seems kind of sheltered from reality, in a twisted way.

Heck, even that sequence where Hux runs to Snoke's chamber for orders screams more like the student body president running to the dean than a cold hearted military man who knows how to react in such a situation. Hux clearly knows what he should do, but still needs Snoke's permission before acting. And, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Bloodline state that the First Order "officially" was founded only about six years ago? So, that means that Hux, Finn, Phasma, and the rest of the First Order's military were being grown and prepped behind the scenes, and considering how much we know about the First Order feeding people propaganda, we have to consider this: Hux may very well actually be completely ignorant about what the Galaxy at large is like, and Snoke may regard that as one of his finest qualities.

Hux is still a monster, but he and Phasma may be the kind of monsters we expect from North Korea; someone fed mountains of misinformation that makes them almost pathetic in a way. Still horrible, still fanatical, but kind of pitiably so.

Yeah he was (judging by the details about his father that we've been given) likely raised practically from birth in this type of organization. So he's had their ideology/belief system drilled into his head for as long as he can remember, so of course he's a fanatic.

That is what makes him more "sympathetic" ironically than Kylo, who CHOSE to betray his loving family as an adult and voluntarily joined the FO. "Sympathy" is a loose term here, but I find Hux to be far less hateable than Kylo right now.

Hopefully he learns how to calm the f down in this movie....seeing as though there is a HUGE chance he isn't going to survive this episode. Then again I was convinced he'd die in episode 7 but whatever, the fangirls on tumblr seem to love him so I can see Disney keeping him around for a little while.

He's actually calm for like 98% of his screentime. He only goes full-on madman during his speech, and that's because he was channeling his inner Hitler (that guy tended to rant and rave during his speeches as well).
