Yes that surprised me. They must have moved Ben's reveal to Rey back later into the film or had Snoke's appearance earlier. That would explain why they had to cover up ben's face with a digital Kylo.

    Well done and seamless.

I talked to a guy at work (in his 40s i think? idk im not there yet lol) and he LOVED TFA, cause its "back to the original/basics", never watched the prequels cause they sucked...

I just about died right there...

I would watch a full length JarJar movie (and I hate movies! lol) than watch a 22 minute tv show about C3PO

Well obviously the green and blue screens used in TFA are more real than the ones used in the prequels duh:p

I have some more videos about PT practical effects

A CGI storm trooper? Also lol at "New" TIE design. It's the same damn thing after 30 years for some reason.

I can imagine fanboys' and OT purists' anger when they will turn back to J.J. and K. Kennedy after watching these pictures and videos from behind the scenes of TFA :p :

Personally I don't care about CGI or practical effects. I really liked The Force Awakens. However, what really bothered me, and it still continues to bother, me was all the speech and promotion surrounding this movie: "Practical effects. Real sets. Pre-digital era and technology":

The worst thing is that critics and the public bought that promotion and I've read some articles from critics, regarding TFA, who weren't shy to mention stuff like: "This movie is a far better improvement than the prequels and its practical effects have allowed us to forget this "digital trilogy"."

Sometimes (or rather very often) it is really easy to take people for idiots, even the ones who calls themselves critics, observers, analysts or professionals. And apparently it has worked very well...

I haven't watched videos on PT effects in a long time... but to be fair I did think it was cool how for TFA they built sets with green screen components (I'm sure the PT did some of that as well)... I didn't see anything where the actors were pretty much just standing in front of a green screen and that's it... there was always some sort of practical component. (and again, not saying they didn't do this in the PT also..... although I know quite a few PT scenes are pretty much pure green screen... and again not saying this is bad...just might be a bit different)

celebration was the only time they really talked about it and that wasn't all they said. they also said, "one foot in the digital, one in the pre-digital." jj saying he knew there would be tons of digital shots, etc.

they never said, "cg is bad, the pt was bad, etc," never.

Yeah I think this movie lays to rest the whole CG can't work and blue/greenscreens = poor films. Clearly it can lead to a great one.

Darth__Lobot, each prequel film had roughly as many full size sets as the original films.

Yeah, I know they had sets and such... but I have see that there were also quite a few sequences where the actors were acting against nothing over than a green screen. I'm not saying it's BAD, I just noticed that at least in the released video all the TFA "greenscreen" sets also had a large practical component.

It's very possible that there was a bunch of pure green screen work in TFA also... I don't know. I also know that some of the "pure greenscreen" sets in PT were done that way because it was the only way to do the scene Lucas wanted to put to film.

    Just some observations

Every actor is different. I've noticed that the much older actors have a very easy time doing this(Liam, Sam, Lee, Ford)

Yep. It's weird right? Ewan said he had a hard time with the green screen but Jackson, Liam and Lee said they had no problems. I guess its more like "the older you get" kinda thing.

I think part of that is that Ewan is very talented. He may have felt he had a hard time, but his performance was still pretty damn good (even if maybe not up to his own standards).

I think it probably makes more sense that more experienced actors can handle "different" situations much more easily.

I think that is mostly only the case with the pick-up shoots where they only had a limited window of two weeks to film missing insert shots, restructure scenes, or in case of the Droid Factory chase, film a whole new scene. Principal photography usually consisted of full or partial sets with green-screen windows or set extensions.

lol RIGHT? he said the Han scene was heartbreaking...

I was like, um bitch, Padme? Shmi?

Like, sure Han dying was sad, but compared to the prequel deaths? Um NO...

I just can't wrap my head around the prequel hate...

I think a lot of people are still hung up on the whole "losing the will to live" thing with respect to Padme, but I will agree that Shmi's death probably was slightly sadder to me personally than Han's, and Han is one of my favorite characters. I think it was because Han's was connected to a relationship we never really got to see develop until the last minute.
