Would they be interested in playing on an illegal music festival? As in a music festival that don't have the permits needed for going on

    EDIT - @Findswoman and @FanonSock - yes, I want a new number. Give me...1. :)

EDIT 2: Just realised that I can respond to this one, combining it with one of my other due challenge responses.

Good, then I think I have an idea.

@Ewok Poet have I understood it right that 'pronk' is your SW answer to punk? Also how violent/non-violet is the pronk moment and how much do it suffer from people who are all about that the music/style must be "real" and look down on people they see as "posers" or bands that move away from what they see as how the genre should be?

Not in this galaxy. ;) No poseurs.

And yes, pronk is punk. Pronkers are punks.

    As for violence, it varies.

    Some more question regarding pronk:
Is bright and creative hairstyles part of it?
Are pierced noses and multiple piercings part of it?

Pronk is about not following the rules. This quote describes it perfectly.

A guy walks up to me and asks 'What's punk?'. So I kick over a garbage can and say 'That's punk!'. So he kicks over the garbage can and says 'That's punk?', and I say 'No that's trendy!"

Don't know how this is done in these threads, but here goes.

    Ottegans & Nu-Cosians

Anyways, Ottegans and Nu-Cosians are the direct result of Arkanian genetic modifications much like the Quermians. The reason the Arkanians created all of them among probably plenty of others was that they were contracted by their parent species to create/help colonists able to thrive in environments far beyond what their parent species would be comfortable and/or survive in.

    Styles/Subcultures

    --------------------------------

    C-Dräg
Dräg culture is not dead, it has just taken on a shape and form the original drägs would find quite different and probably completely abnormal to their belief.

C-dräg is the new incarnation of cyberdräg which developed out of a combination of milita-dräg, N.Gen-dräg, Boosters and neo-pronk. Like classic dräg culture so is C-dräg main tenets an egalitarian- anarchistic philosophy and rejection of mainstream culture and society, even if most C-drägs just use those tenets as an excuse to fight and/or be rebellious.

The subculture is characterized by loud music, anarchistic and rebellious believes and a glorification of violence. In appearance is the subculture a child of its forbearers: as with the original drägs so is secondhand clothing with visible damages, color/food stains or repairs a most; like the milita-dräg so is military clothing preferable (from which military dose not mater (unless you belong to some specific sub-subcultures)) the more battle-damaged and blood splattered the better; from N.Gen-dräg comes the tendency to paint, in bright colours, words and symbols on their clothing or just paint them all over while Boosters culture gave C-drägs their love for cybernetics, metal spikes or studs, chains and see-through clothing (to show off their cybernetics, tattoos and battle scars).

    --------------------------------

    Low-tech
Modern day technology are things that you need a true specialist or the right kind of droid to repair if you break it, low-techers believe that it is better using technology that they themselves can built or at least repair in their own homes or workshops. This means that they have vapor-engine automobiles (or even animal drawn wagons) instead of speeders; their timekeepers use gears and are often windup driven; communicators are replaced with shortwave radios or similar; etc.

Low-tech music is played on acoustic instruments or using only simple electronic instruments and is recorded on phonograph or similar.

    --------------------------------

    Junkers (also known as Scavvies)
The saying “one man’s junk is another man’s treasure” is a philosophy junkers live after, everything a true junker own is second, or third or fourth or even more, hand and looks that way (it is actually not unheard of that junkers “rough up” items that have been too well cared of).

A junker dresses in patched up hand-me-downs, drive around in jury-rigged vesicles and use items and programs that were released years ago. Any junker with pride is capable of turning any kind of trash into useful items or knows another junker who can do it.

Junkers are seldom seen on worlds were the use of secondhand items and jury-rigging is commonplace.

Neos and junkers are natural enemies.

    --------------------------------

    Neo
Being a neo is about having the latest gadgets, newest item and most advanced programs and to show them of too other neos. To must neos clothes are secondary, unless the clothes are the latest gadget, even if some subgroups put just as much emphasis on gaining the latest fashion as the latest items.

Neo is popular on planets like Coruscant, … and on Kuat’s ring and other planets where it's easy to get the latest technological toys

Junkers and neo are natural enemies.

    --------------------------------

    Geelee
The idea with geelee style is to look as cute and doll-like as possible. If you cannot look cute you should look doll-like and if you cannot look doll-like you should look cute.

Among the geelee subgroups are creelee, were the idea is that you are supposed to look creepy-cute and doll-like

Rathtar, and the 'How Could The Same Stang Hit The Same MegaCorp Twice' incidents
Plus character sheet for ANH rebel pilot (as his Mum helped create the rathtar)

The Holowan Laboratories suffered the infamous Holowan Massacre during the....well, technically, at the end of, the 'Phlutdroid Project', when IG-88 droids gained sentience, went rogue, and either killed their creators on site, or hunted them down across the galaxy.

However, Holowan had already distanced itself from an earlier, eerily similar incident with Holowan Genetics, where that unit had been attempting to make Sarlaccs and related rooted creatures mobile, for military purposes.

One of their creations, the Rathtar, escaped confinement, and went on a rampage through the five storey facility.
The creatures reproduce by fission, self-cloning when they have had too much to eat. The rathtar ate so many employees, that four other creatures had been fissioned out of it, before the site was levelled by a tactical warhead from the local security forces.

That the galaxy at large, believe the Rathtar to be a natural creature of evolution, is a testament to the Holowan cover-up, though there were dirty pants, and squeaky bottoms aplenty, when biologists found traces of sarlacc, etc’, within the rathtar DNA.

Geneticist, Madeline Qipao and some others had had enough warning of trouble, to get out to the landspeeder park, and as others around her were caught on tentacles, and snatched back to their doom, she broke into vehicles, discovered they wouldn’t drive, bailed out onto the ferrocrete, until she got to the nineteenth vehicle that she tried, and got the drokk out of dodge.

She declared “19” to be her lucky number, and had it added to the family name.

Her son, Alex Qipao19, became a TIE pilot, who had defected to the Rebel Alliance by time of the Battle of Yavin:

    Personality
---Traits: Bit of a snob. Friendly and helpful to people he respects, which while it can include humans and aliens, apparently does not include hick farmboys and Outer Rim-mers. Thinks and plans ahead, and acts as the quartermaster for himself and fellow TIE pilot, Baille Harte.

---Habits: Compensates for Lt. Harte's faults, and plans ahead. When ordering equipment and accessories, does it for both of them. Decided that Baille needed someone looking out for her since he saved her life, stopping her from offering Darth Vader some Rafa Delights (chocolate pyramids) in gratitude for the 'Dark Nebulae' TIE Phantom squadron' placement, and regards her as a younger sister.

    - Two tours escorting the famous Field Secured Container Vessel, Black Ice.
    - As a teenager, worked summers at Holowan Corporation, in the admin department. His mother worked for them, and arranged it.

A few announcements, since it’s been a while (sorry)! First, a new post by @Gamiel is up:

    Styles and Subcultures by Gamiel

And @Gahmah Raan has made an update to his post on Valkor's Forceless Collective, as mentioned a couple posts above. If there are any other updates I may have missed, please do let me know.

    * * *

Next, a friendly reminder that there are two weeks to go till the Fanon Planet Plus One challenge comes due on June 17! Looking forward to seeing what will come in for that. :)

    * * *

    And finally, how about a…
    [face_dancing] NEW DISCUSSION! [face_dancing]
When you come up with your fanon elements and lore, is it always in tandem with a story or stories that you’re writing, or do you sometimes come up with it completely independently of a story? Or, put another way: what comes first, the story or the fanon? [face_chicken] (I’m pretty sure we have a wide range of approaches on this score—one of the things that makes this community great! :D )

Enjoy, and thank you all! :)

Species of Yavin 4: The Continent of Koos

This hopefully going to be a little encyclopedia of species that were referenced in my most recent story set on Yavin 4. Feel free to write them into fanfic, as is the purpose of the Fanon thread. And as a general statement, the same goes for any other wildlife, alien species, plants, etc. that you see in my stories -- go ahead. Drop me a note, I’d love to hear about it! :) I’ve listed which ones derive from existing Star Wars creatures.

All of these creatures (and maybe plants at some point) come from a continent on Yavin 4 (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Koos) that I've fanoned as being mainly composed of a giant mangrove swamp with a second "landmass" of sorts that is anchored by floating plants up in the higher levels of the big trees.

Most of these are exotic creatures not especially well-known in the galaxy, but the area was scouted during the Rebellion and possibly later. It's entirely possible some of these life forms have been smuggled offworld by various individuals or organizations as curiosities/guards/pets by the New Republic era.

Creepy crawly alert on today's entries -- didn't really plan it that way, but it's all carnivorous bugs now!

    Animals

    1)
    Lady Vandron’s Piranha Beetle

Piranha beetles occur in more varieties on Koos than anywhere else on Yavin 4. Some of them were rather creatively named by the Rebel scouts who discovered them during the Galactic Civil War. Lady Vandron’s piranha beetle was named in dubious honor of Theala Vandron, who was the wife of COMPNOR official Crueya Vandron. She was well-known for her repertoire of disapproving noises and haughty mannerisms. This made the insect’s rather flatulent (and to some ears, similarly disapproving) sounds a source of humor for Alliance personnel.

Like most of the piranha beetles found on Koos, Lady Vandron’s piranha beetle tends to prefer smaller prey than its counterparts from elsewhere on Yavin 4. However, large swarms can become more aggressive in the dry season if they are unable to find sufficient food. The beetle’s coloration is metallic green on the back and head, with blue wingtips and an orange underbelly and legs. Although capable of traveling between levels of the forest, this species is mainly found in areas where there are large permanent reservoirs of water. Said to be edible but extremely bitter in taste.

    Notes:
Variation on the Piranha beetle (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Piranha_beetle/Legends)

    2)
Koosian Fire Wyrm (also known as the Scout's Nightmare ;) )

While relatives of this species are found elsewhere on Yavin 4, the Koosian fire wyrm is by far the largest and most striking. This multipede reaches lengths of up to five meters and has a jet-black or cobalt blue body with intricate bright orange patterns running along the back, and a crimson belly and legs. The orange spots and stripe patterns vary by age and sex, and each individual has slight differences that make them identifiable.

The fire wyrm is one of the key predators on the continent, hunting large prey such as speckled runyips, mawgaxes, and raaruhus. It usually avoids humanoid species (they are not especially tasty to the multipede, which has a good sense of smell), but can be extremely dangerous if provoked. This is especially a concern for travelers in places where there may be a nesting female. Large rotting logs may contain eggs or young fire wyrms... and a very angry mama multipede.

These animals are solitary as adults and usually attach themselves to a single plant, tree, or large branch. They inhabit most levels of the forest. Females prefer areas with a lot of fallen trees, while males tend to be found near water. The fire wyrm will build its den near or under the roots if they are accessible, which is its refuge while sleeping. It spends much of its waking time in the middle branches where it can find arboreal prey or be positioned to drop onto larger creatures below. Adults are good swimmers and will sometimes hunt underwater -- especially during the rainy season. They are ambush predators and mainly rely on their venomous claws to take down other animals. Although they have extremely poor vision, they are very sensitive to vibrations and have an excellent sense of smell. Because of their territorial nature, fire wyrms will try to warn off any creature they don't recognize by hissing loudly.

Fire wyrms usually mate near the end of the rainy season, when soil and plant matter are easier to dig and their offspring are less likely to end up underwater. Males select and dig the nesting site, but are otherwise uninvolved as parents. Females watch over the eggs and young for up to several months after hatching; they lay only ten to twenty eggs at a time and the young are not immediately able to leave the nest.

    Notes:
Centipede life cycles are a lot more complicated than I thought before searching. This stuff is fascinating, but maybe to be avoided if you don’t want to hear about creepy-crawly mating rituals and family cannibalism. Here are the main sources that I used:
    https://news.nationalgeographic.com...vered-laos-scolopendra-cataracta-new-species/

I'm jumping the challenge this time. I have two longer SW fics that I have in practise only begun that I need to work more on and I seem to be under near constant attack of Marvel fic bunnies.

I have an idea for this challenge and will maybe do it in the future.

For me fanon usually come first, I have easier for world building bunnies then fic bunnies. In the case of my bunnies regarding the Lahara Sector so did I decide to set a fic in it before I begun to create bunnies for it but that was because I needed a good setting for my fic

@Gamiel, thanks for catching those posts; I've added them to the index. A big part of why I missed them is that I am pretty sure I didn't receive PMs for all of them (to those who did alert me by PM, thank you).

This, good people, is why it's extremely important to PM THIS SOCK each time you either (a) post a new fanon post or (b) update one of your fanon posts—if you don't, as you see, I am pretty much guaranteed to miss it. In any case, here is a list of some of our newest posts:

    Tepasi flatbread by @Daneira
Species of Yavin 4: The Continent of Koos by @Kahara
Rathtar, and the 'How Could The Same Stang Hit The Same MegaCorp Twice' incidents by @Sith-I-5
Imperial Super Commandos and Jodo Kast by @Voltron64
    Ottegans and Nu-Cosians by Voltron64

    And now for some announcements:
    1. As he announces above, Gamiel has made updates to his Lahara Sector and Lahara Sector Organizations posts.
    2. Again—because it can't be emphasized enough—please remember to PM THE SOCK when you have an update or a new post.
    3. There is just under a week left for the Fanon Planet Plus One challenge, due on June 17!
    4. Keep the discussion coming! I always love hearing our community members' different approaches.
    5. Oh, and did I say PM THE SOCK? :p
    Thank you all! :D

    Well, well, well!

On one hand, I have to begin with a colossal “ohwhatagooseiam.” I was away on vacation all last week and the deadline for the Planet Plus One challenge (June 17) slipped right by me. Really sorry about that, everyone. [face_blush]

On the other hand... no entries for this challenge have come in. So here are some possible ways we can proceed:

    1. Extend the deadline of the current challenge another month.

    2. Revise the challenge to hopefully make it a little less difficult—perhaps requiring the use of only the fanon planet rather than another fanon element as well—and run the revised challenge for the usual 4 months or so. People who have already signed up for the challenge could continue with the same fanon planets they originally got, or try for something new, as they wish.

    3. Start a completely new challenge. (I personally would kind of rather go with 1 or 2 above, but it seems only fair to put this out there too, for completeness’ sake.)

So, what do you folks say? Do let me know, and of course if you have an idea that's completely different from the above, that would be great to hear too.

Thanks in advance, and again, sorry for letting things slip by!

    Fanon regarding Ithorian herdships
My version of Ithorian herdships would have them as large or larger then super star destroyers with biodomes of all sizes covering them, the larges ones in a similar pattern as the biodomes in Silent Running. Those herdships are in practise FTL capable space-stations-cities capable of anything you would find in any better space port: Need to repair your ship? They can do it. Buy new parts? They most likely have them. Food, drink and entertainment is hihly available (if not maybe what you are used to).

The Ithorian herdships are willing to sell food (but not the same thing year around, they only sell what's in season), wood (both raw or processed) and other products from their great gardens, and you can also buy potted plants, all that you need for your own on-ship garden (both for aesthetic gardens and food gardens), nature friendly oils (for personal, food, or mechanical use among other), etcetera. You can also get lessons in gardening, woodwork, bonsai cultivation and cooking using raw ingredient (many spacers only know how to cook using canned and/or instant food).

The herdships also offer to clean up the ship's septic tanks for a minimal fee (or free if you have your ship being repaired or similar while aboard the herdship), and taking care of any dead (most herdships have a Dahrtagian funeral-savant to make certain that the dead gets the right rites). What most spacers don't realise is that for the Ithorian's so is the fertilizer that they create from the content of the septic-tanks and the dead bodies highly important for the continued existence of the herdships great gardens.
They also offer good deals for their nature friendly machine oils and similar if you trade in your toxic counterparts.
