    Thorin's the leader
The white-haired one is someone (the one who told the tale of Moria), he had that conversation with Bilbo before the cave collapsed. Him and Thorin were fleshed out the best
one of them is Balin and the two that got Bilbo to try to free the horses are somebody as well.
    The others not a clue.

Nori didn't do much, except have that weirdo hairdo.

Ori is the young, really inexperienced guy.

Dori is the one who's very polite, that offers Gandalf a drink, and politely asks Gandalf to help when they're about to fall off the tree.

Fili and Kili are the brothers, funny, also young and not as experienced. They're Thorin's nephews.

    Oin is deaf.

    Gloin is Gimli's dad.

    Bombur is the fatso.

Bofur is the kind one, who was going to let Bilbo go in the cave, shortly before the Goblins attacked,

Bifur has the axe in his head, can't speak.

Balin is the old guy, who was with Thorin in the very beginning, who remembers the Lonely Mountain and the Battle of Moria, and becomes Bilbo's closest friend.
    spoiler (open)
SPOILER... you know that tomb that Gimli finds in LOTR when they're in Moria, with the beam of light shining on it? That's Balin's tomb.

Dwalin is the Dwarf who first came to Bag End, very rough and tough, expert fighter.

Oin's the deaf one, Bombur's the fat one, Bofur is the charismatic Nesbitt-y one, Bifur is the mute with an axe in his head, Dwalin is the big bald tough guy, Balin is Santa Claus, Gloin is the cartoonishly insipid father of Gimli, Fili and Kili are the cute gay lovers, Dori is the forgetful Blue Tang, Nori is the frizzy-haired conditioner commercial to be, Ori is the one that rode the short bus, and Thorin is the stoic anti-hero with a lot on his shoulders besides animal skin.

Kinda weird that Smaug will be the first dragon we see in the Hobbit and LOTR movies

Actually there are very few dragons given prominent roles in Tolkien... the other one is Glaurung in the First Age.

Not sure why is that "weird", given that Smaug is the only dragon that's around during that time... In fact, there were no dragons around during LOTR (at least not around the "known parts" that are covered by the Middle-earth map at the end of LOTR).

Yeah, the only named dragons in the Legendarium are Glaurung, Ancalagon, Scatha and Smaug.

I want to see Ancalagon done on film one day, if only because he was apparently stupidly gigantic and it would be awesome.

Yep, after he was killed in the air he destroyed a whole mountain chain by dropping on it.

Other great stuff in the Silmarillion include the Battle of Sudden Flame with its numerous balrogs attacking elves' armies and LĂșthien's dog kicking Sauron's backside and LĂșthien herself singing his boss Morgoth into sleep. Oh yeah, and Turin unknowingly marrying his sister whom he found naked in the woods. Great movie material.

I'd love to see Glaurung on screen mainly because I would like to see a really good adaptation of The Children of Hurin.

I hope Smaug eats Mathew McConaughey in Part 2 so then Christian Bale gets sad and gets in the Batplane and blows Smaug to smitharoons.
