I have always wondered where specifically the emperor's throne room was located in ROTJ? I know there is a brief shot where they show a tower like structure; however, it never made sense to me given how the Death Star was configured. The Death Star was a round spherical structure, I don't see a place for a tower based on how it's shown in the film.

Does anyone have an answer to this question?

North Pole is where the tower is (newcanon Complete Locations). I figure Palpatine's going to want somewhere "higher" than everywhere else on the Death Star, so that from his perspective he's looking down on everybody.

Thanks for the response, although, it still doesn't make much sense from a canon perspective.

So there is a tower sitting on top of the Death Star.....odd.

That's where the throne room is. That's why Marquand, Lucas and ILM focused on it, whenever we'd see the exterior.

it's also a mockery of the jedi temple's spire.

Keep in mind that from the distance that we see the Death Star from, even the tallest tower on Earth would be barely more than a speck at the top. It's ridiculously huge.

It is so satisfying to have all these Star Wars questions I never had answered.

    What's particularly "odd" about it?

Most spheres don't have a dish carved into them from where a laser is concentrated and fired either. That's the most odd thing about this artificial planetoid.

It's not a smooth sphere and has many structures protruding from it, just like the last one. The throne room happens to be at the top of the tallest protrusion. Although in proportion to the whole battle station, it is minuscule. Like the stump of a five hour old shaven whisker.

Conceivably so that the Emperor can be protected from the rest of the station, in case of insurrection or mutiny.

I always imagined that the whole spire could have ejected from the surface of the station in an emergency.

Wouldn't surprise me. Especially given the Lusankya in Legends. Maybe it even had engines.

Also depicted here in the Essential Guide to Vehicles and Vessels:

And symbolizes that the Emperor, like the Jedi in the prequels, has lost touch with the people of the galaxy and the currents of The Force.
