I have a 1980s VHS rental of ANH, as well as 1980s home tape recordings of ESB and ROTJ off cable (Showtime logo shows up once or twice during ESB). ROTJ ending cuts off during Vader's death scene, so when I was a kid growing up I always enjoyed watching that film more when I saw it on TV, because I could see the ending.

In addition I have "The Faces" box set from 1995.

I don't own any of the DVDs or BluRays because they are total crap.

Did they have her talk about the movies briefly before and after each commercial break? Or did she talk throughout the film?

All of the different versions of the OT I own on vhs.
I'm still hoping we get the OOT on BD. Does anyone have any leads on if that might happen soon?
    Fingers crossed...

Just before and after commercial breaks. Anything more would be too much.

I have three versions of VHS - two different sets of the originals, one full screen and one widescreen (these were amazing to watch for the first time as I had never seen it with the proper aspect ratio, having missed all at the cinema), and then I have a set of the 1997 special editions (aka George Lucas' Perfect Vision for Star Wars).

Honestly? I wouldn't wait. I highly recommend Harmy's De-specialised editions, which are pretty much what any official bluray will end up looking like anyway.

Love this set. Worn out and the covers are dog-eared,but I still have them. I still put them on from time to time just for nostalgia sake.

I have the 1995 VHS tapes but they are so worn out I doubt they even work anymore.

    It shouldn't be a problem.
Some tapes hold up surprisingly well if they are handled carefully and stored properly.

An old tape can snap when rewinding it, but that doesn't usually effect the VCR.

The worst case scenario is the tape getting jammed in the machine which can ruin the VCR. I've known this to happen, from time to time.

This is the trilogy set I wore out as a kid. But I have another VHS set, the LD and several DVD versions. I also have TPM on VHS in widescreen as well.

I had the fullscreen version of that set, the one with the gold box. I don't have it anymore, mum threw out all of my videos a few years ago.

I've got no idea where most of the tapes are because at one point I had every version but have no VCR anyway. I'm 99% sure I have at least the THX copy of Jedi and the original Phantom Menace which was I think the last new release tape I ever bought.

It would seem like we could at least lay hands on the THX editions converted to blu, that version is original enough for me. It seems like it was just upgrading the sound, cleaning up the matte lines, and such. I don't think actual content was altered until the SE in 97.

They most certainly have remastered the originals... It's just a matter if they will ever release them (or legally if they can).

Oh yeah, I've got that set. My grandma bought me the 1995 boxset. Still looks great, just watched it on an HD display. Tapes will last if you take care of them. For nostalgic purposes, I bought both the widescreen and fullscreen Special Edition sets from thrift stores (which was no more than $5).

I have the '95 Faces VHS and the '97 SE VHS tapes. I never really thought to buy them on VHS growing up in the 80's as they were on HBO all the time. There was something special back then when you're channel surfing and stop at the 20th Century Fox music and you realized Star Wars was coming on!

I have the entire script for the intro commercial burned into my memory.

"For those who remember, and for those who will never forget, and for those who will experience it for the very first time..."

Who knew that the "One. Last. Time." tagline wasn't just marketing, it was a threat.

For some reason, I took that at face value, at the time. It never occured to me however, that once we had newer tech available, like BD, that the OOT would remain in the "vault."

Who benefits from not releasing the OOT on BD?
