As i say Bond 1962 to 2002 lol, the Craig films were an alternate Bond for me anyway so ill just keep watching my Connery, Lazenby,Moore,Dalton and Brosnan dvds/blurays.

Something about this DVD box set makes me so happy.

And the special edition DVDs were awesome too. The website was awesome. Most boxset make some cardboard folders now and days.

Did anyone get the briefcase box set?

Someone needs to reorganize those chronologically.

At any rate, since Craig is my favorite now, any set without his movies looks really incomplete. Also, viewing them all together shows how many mediocre / filler movies really are in the series. :p

    Same thing with Star Wars...Star Trek...Marvel...DC...Harry Potter...Lord of the Rings...Mission Impossible...Jason Bourne...

At a certain point with any franchise...no matter how many people try to hype it up...it is most certainly lacking energy of originality...and equally required to meet certain rote expectations to be a kindred of the set.

Even the Craig-era bond could not escape the tropes and innuendos expected of the characters and plots.

And most often, it takes a real challenge to people's expectations to stand out from the line of sequels...and sometimes, you fall flat in the attempt.
The franchise machine rarely allows for such ambition...at least until the box office returns start to weaken, and they must reach deep into the bag of tricks.

Most of them are enormously entertaining; I just find it unfortunate that EON wasn't capable of producing a full-out masterpiece in between OHMSS and Casino Royale (an almost 40-year span!).

FYEO, TLD and LTK are all good, but they're held back from being truly great by John Glen's creaky direction. Franchise really should've started bringing in new blood behind the scenes sooner.

Every 007 films is perfect. From Dr. No to die another day. Yes die another day. Then there are the Craig films which feel forced.

Moonraker and Die Another Day are perfect? And the rest too? OK. [face_dunno]

Casino Royale alone is better than the entirety of Moore’s, Dalton’s, and Brosnan’s runs combined.

I’d still argue Goldeneye should be seen as the perfect “conventional” Bond film, with all the tropes and cliches expected played 100% straight and perfectly.

Casino Royale is better than the rest when it comes to unconventional Bond films, though For Your Eyes Only is a diamond in the rough for feeling very much like a good “how does an older Bond work without going into a sort of TDKR-type of territory?” example.

Die Another Day explored every single concept that was in Skyfall: Bond coming out of retirement, Bond getting captured/compromised, doubts about his performance, an enemy with an (acquired) knowledge of him/the organization. Why is one lambasted for it while the other is praised? Especially when the more recent one had a full on Home Alone sequence of people running around a home with crazy hijinks.

Die Another Day is one of the only James Bond films where the opening song is recognizably a song.

You know its true. What kind of weird, post-modern, art deco, abstract weirdness were composers doing with this series?

Sirloin steak and a mound of dog feces are both comprised of matter, but the comparison ends there. And please, everyone, for the love of God, stop referencing Home Alone when discussing the Skyfall climax. The siege-conceit has been utilized in films as esteemed as Straw Dogs and Rio Bravo--and works just as well in Skyfall. Bond isn't tying @#$%ing paint cans to rope or crushing Christmas ornaments; he's defending his homestead beyond civilization.

Skyfall is actually more similar to TWINE , the villain is out for revenge against M. Both start with an explosion at MI6 too.

Bond gets injured in the opening sequence of both films; Bond has to be assessed before returning to the field; the only difference is that M in Skyfall lied about his passing his tests, while in TWINE, Bond got the doctor to lie.

Oh I'm sorry did you make a even better spy film then moonraker?

Are you a 007 fan if you don't love every second of 007 film history?
