    Prologue

Obi-Wan rushed into the quarters he shared with Anakin and dashed for his room to get his travel bag ready. An urgent message from Master Sha'as on a mid-Rim world had just come in. The world was embroiled in a civil war and was endeavoring to establish a truce.

Obi-Wan's natural concern was heightened by the fact that Elias Kage was his close friend. His stomach knotted at the thought of what must have happened to the experienced pair. He knew that Master Sha'as would not have sent a message asking for help unless the situation had turned serious.

Anakin was filled in on the details and was excited for a bit of adventure.

He was on the verge of adolescence, which only accentuated his thirst for adventure.

Obi-Wan smiled fondly ... he had been very much the same at that age.

"I hope we arrive on time. I hope they're all right." Anakin observed, mirroring Obi-Wan's thoughts.

    Obi-Wan grimaced in determination.

    They had to be.

Note: Worked this up earlier than expected :)

    -------

Cold dread knifed through Obi-Wan as the comm-board lit up. Rex was able to initiate on a secure frequency contact with "42."

"'Bout time you guys showed up." 42 growled. "Sha'as was double-crossed and ambushed by a group of 'Enforcers' with battle droids. Even more than he could take out."

"What happened to Elias?" broke in Obi-Wan.

"I cannot find him. He's locked away under heavy guard."

"We'll have to negotiate his release." piped in Anakin.

"Hmmmph. Negotiating with terrorists ..." 42 retorted. "That should work."

"We don't have an insertion team at the ready." Rex pointed out.

"Well, you should have thought of that first."

Obi-Wan's eyes narrowed. "This isn't getting us anywhere. We hae to come up with a plan."

    **

Events transpred very quickly after that. The opposition faction sprang Kage loose as they were cemtning their hold on the capital.

When he was safe, he rendezvoused with Obi-Wan and the rest in a bittersweet reunion.

    Kage's hazel eyes were clouded.

"I will miss Master Sha'as." He confided. "His wry sense of humor ..."

Obi-Wan felt a sympathetic twinge. He still missed Master Jinn. He did not think that feeling would fade, completely.

Such a loss would and should make the remaining friendships that much more appreciated, he thought, and expressed this to Kage.

"You're getting downright philosophical," He teased, in a lighter mood.

    Obi-Wan laughed.

"I'm paired with Anakin, remember. One of us has to be the voice of reason."

    Kage grinned.

"How's Siri doing, by the way?"

Obi-Wan shrugged. His friend knew him too well to be put off by such a semblance of casualness.

"As feisty as ever." He remarked.

What the Council did not know about himself and Siri's soul-bond was nothing they needed to know.

"Thanks for coming after us." Kage said. "I wanted to express our thanks for the group, since I figure 42 neglected to do so."

"He's as snippy as a Correllian." Obi-Wan observed. "But you just have to dig past the snark."

"I'm not sure what you'd find if you did." Kage rejoined.

    Obi-Wan sighed.

"What he lacks is good female companionship." He answered. "It's done Captain Rex a world of good." He finished conspiratorially.

"That gives me an idea." Kage said, thoughtfully after a moment.

"Count me in." Obi-Wan said, always willing to lend a hand in the furtherance of romance.
