Well, the whole film, in my opinion, is a bad space opera parody.

The Kirk character is a jerk, while the others are written in an incredibly dumb way to give Kirk an easy ride to the captain's chair, or -- worse still -- they stand around like zombies when Kirk (stupidly and predictably) gets into fights and takes a serious (or, as the film constantly contrives to have it, not-so-serious/cartoon-y/unbelievable) pasting.

Basically, the characters (and the world they inhabit) are cardboard, with no soul. And Simon Pegg is in it.

So into Room 101 it goes.

I think this is the perfect chance for me to ask, because I've never understood that line. It's my favourite movie, so it's kinda embarrassing that I still don't get one of the better interactions between Anakin and Obi-Wan. So what does "no loose wire jokes" mean? Like in that context, because of course I understand the actual words. Does it mean that R2 has loose wires and that's why he messed up that elevator situation or what? Please help me understand. :D

I think it means that Obi-Wan sometimes makes jokes about R2 having "loose wires". Kind of like having a screw loose. Meaning he can go a bit haywire at times.

No idea lol, I just find the interaction of Anakin and Obi-Wan funny lol. It's clear Obi-Wan has made the joke multiple times at Anakin's expense and Anakin has had it up to here with it [face_laugh]

The new character posters have been revealed today. I like their style.

    Rey
    Leia
    Kylo
    Han
    Finn

First observations: each character has their right eye covered.

Apparently Obi-Wan makes jokes about R-2 being strange or defective in some way, given that he has a mind of his own moreso than other droids.

Can I just come out and say that I absolutely love Leia's poster? This is the first reeeally good look we've had of her, and I gotta say: Carrie Fisher's looking great. With all that's gone on in her life, she managed to still look like how I would imagine Princess Leia would look 30 years after ROTJ.

    What an amazing, strong woman.

    Photoshop retouching does wonders ;)
But I admit she looks better than expected in trailer too.

I mean she has been through some tough **** so it's amazing she looks as good as she does in the movie even if this is a bit of photoshop.

Looked up what Room 101 is. Ok, agree :)

Definitely more excited about Rian Johnson and wish he was there from the beginning.

LOL!!!!! I think it's kinda awesome that you did that. :D

I think he will do his best to make a very interesting middle installment.

And that's appropriate: the middle installments of the current trilogies are fiendishly compelling and kinda tend to send everyone a bit crazy. [face_mischief]

Big call would me saying "TFA sucks before seeing". I'm just talking about my level of excitement based on my previous experience. I hope I'll enjoy it, of course.

But Abrams has already directed a Star Wars movie called "Star Trek". It wasn't very good. Therefore it's easy to understand why someone can be more excited for Episode VIII over TFA.

    :p

I still don't see what people see in the newer Star Trek films. I guess people really do like the style of the them, because there is very little substance to found. But I lay most of the blame on Alex Kurtzman and Rober Orci. Even then, I don't understand who came up with the idea that Star Trek: Into Darkness had to looks so blue which I found to be visually unappealing.

I'm not a Trekkie by any stretch of the imagination, but, I found STID an ok movie. Ok in that to me it was a popcorn movie, one really didn't need their brain turned on in order to watch it. Sit there and shovel popcorn in my face. So by that standard it's an ok movie for me and for the general public. Very much in the same way movies like Gladiator and 300 are "good" movies. It's fun to just go to a movie that you really have no emotional investment in and be "entertained" for a couple hours. With that said I can see why Trekkies are unhappy with the ST reboots, as from talking to a friend that is a Trekkie, the reboots don't have the same depth to them (from what I have been told).

The best Star Wars movie in the past few years was Guardians of the Galaxy. It was fun, some emotional depth and even some bizarre characters and other things that could have easily fit GFFA. The only thing I missed was a great villain but it's to be expected from Marvel movies. (you gotta admit GL usually comes up with some pretty memorable villains even if they sometimes underused or die stupidly). Looking forward to "I'm your father" moment in the next one.

    They do.

Good lord. Star Trek basically ripped off the plot of ANH. It butchered the characters (I'm still not over what was done to Jim Kirk). It had the blandest and most forgettable villain. It has so, so many plot holes. Everything feels contrived (yeah, Jim Kirk's going to be captain SURE).

It is so, so bad. Just an awful movie.

I'm not excited about JJ because none of his feature films impressed me much:
    - MI3 - utterly forgettable
    - St 09 - enjoyable in a silly sort of way
    - ST ID - a mess. No way it's better than any of the prequels.

So his installments in the existing franchises are not that great in my book. Haven't watched Super8 which is supposed to be his best work. But if I want a Spielberg movie with kids I'll just watch E.T.

But I do remember being very impressed by the Lost pilot. That was well done. Maybe he should have stayed on TV.

-NaTaLie-: The one you didn't watch (Super 8) is probably the one you'd enjoy the most, even if your needs in the Spielberg kids movie genre are already met. It's certainly Abrams' most intimate movie (in a childlike endearing kind of way).

Anyway, one thing has been bothering me the last couple of days and I might need Darth Downunder to provide a different perspective. :p It's the amount of dogfights in TFA.
Think about it, we've already seen TIEs against the Millenium Falcon on Jakku, TIEs against X-Wings over a lake, TIEs against X-Wings "in winter." This is really going to be a TIE Fighter Extravaganza. :D

To be fair, dogfights and lightsaber duels are the staples of Star Wars (even more so than battles). One of the critics - Ebert, I think - complained there were too many lightsaber duel in ROTS. We'll see. Maybe they'll manage to make them all look unique.

I can understand why there was so many lightsaber battles in ROTS, but I was fatigued after them. I'd rather they mix things up a bit for the ST.
