Some people like to find anything to complain about. Each lightsaber duel and moment in ROTS was important.

I don't care if there are a lot of dogfights in TFA as long as a good story is being told and each moment is important.

Keep in mind, Ebert also thought the trench run in ANH was too long ;)

Yeah, I've heard other SW fans make this comparison. Unfortunately, even though I love all six SW films, I didn't like GoG at all. I didn't find myself caring about any of the characters (except for thinking Groot was cute), I found the attempts at humor grating, and mainly I was just bored for most of the film.[face_plain] But I know GoG is widely beloved and I'm in the minority on this one!:p

Then again his films have been hugely successful and critically acclaimed. So his movie career has worked out ok too.
Individual opinions hey. 312 out of 329 reviewers completely disagree with you & give detailed reasons as to why they think it was very good. 91% out of 742,000 members of the public also gave it a high rating.

So there must be some things about the film that resonate with a large majority of viewers. But, there's never been a film that pleases everyone & there never will be.

Wasn't ANH ripped off of The Hidden Fortress?

Yeah I thought that too. SW is very derivative of several sources & also has its share of plot holes. How did Padme know about that hangar in AotC? One of the great mysteries
Star Wars man. Wars...in the stars. With spaceships. It's not called Infantry Wars or Starman Wars ;)

Their challenge will be to make each battle different & unique from one another. Not just "here we go again". Also we have a main character who's an X-Wing pilot so that probably necessitates more scenes of him doing his thing.

I dont know if this has been discussed here but if what we are being led to believe is true, and the Knights of Ren
are indeed a new dark side faction and not Sith
then that means the writers did indeed respect the PT and the Chosen One prophecy. I really hope this is the case. Though Kylo's Vader fanboyism raises its own questions that may contradict this, IDK.

The Most Cunning Jedi: That was probably the most important thing for me going into this sequel trilogy. I don't know if spoiler tags are necessary though, but okay.

It's pretty obvious from the existing six movies that the prophecy has been fulfilled and the Sith are gone forever. Their "lineage" is broken. If TFA really respects that, and it looks like it does, I'm fine with pretty much everything else they do with the movie.

    But what if
Plagueis shows up? Would it undermine the PT?

I very much doubt this will happen. Honestly, I'll be very, very surprised if TFA brings up anything that occurred or anyone that appeared solely in the PT. Characters that were significant in both trilogies could very well have a bearing on the plot, but I doubt any PT-exclusive characters will even be mentioned.

I think it could be interesting if done right.

Let's say he's been around in some immaterial/powerless form without being able to affect the Force in a significant way. In that case, he's as good as dead so the Prophecy is still fulfilled. Then he might be brought back like Voldemort. He's only mentioned in the PT, we don't see him die so it's not as hokey as resurrecting Darth Maul (I know it's already happened in TCW). It'll also tie the trilogies together.

Oh, I agree it could be very interesting.

I just don't think they'll go there, especially for the first movie released by Disney. They're going to play it safe and stick to OT material. That's why I think that anything exclusive to the PT won't even be mentioned let alone form a significant plot point.

I'm sure it won't happen in TFA. Same for Anakin's ghost. But VIII or IX? Who knows. It's just hard to surpass a real Sith Lord. Everything else would seem like an imitation. Even Kylo is not meant to be Vader yet (which is smart IMO).

Just a little perspective: Lucas did American Graffiti and Star Wars by the age of 33 (!). He founded an independent studio that produced 2 successful follow-ups and co-created another massively popular franchise. All of that still younger than JJ now.

So yes, JJ did well for himself but not even close to Lucas in terms of cultural significance, originality or technical achievement. At the same time, Lost, for instance, was massively popular and innovative (haven't watched anything else other than Fringe but that was great, too). So I get a feeling that in the end his TV career will trump his cinematic work.

Agree with you completely...but it's not a competition between the two. Comparing Abrams & Lucas in terms of cultural impact & achievement is laughable. Abrams seems like a level headed & even self-deprecating guy. I'm sure he'd also scoff at any comparison. That doesn't mean he's not fit to co-write & direct one SW movie.

Wow! Those character posters are plain by today standards..I like.
Yup. That's the reason I'm scared for TFA in particular, it being the ground work for ST...I'm just not fond of JJ's art of story telling in general...

-NaTaLie- I'm glad I'm not alone on Episode vIII!

I think DP could work all right if they came up with a really clever way that he outsmarts the prophecy. Maybe he realized that he couldn't stop Palpatine, so he put himself into a state of suspended animation, and Palpatine killed a decoy. Really that's not that good either, but something similar to that, but more clever. Some way of separating himself from the Sith line and then re-emerging after the Chosen One has fulfilled the prophecy.

I'd be okay with this is if it was done right, but I think it might be better if they came up with a new villain who has very different goals -- perhaps destroying the Force itself. Palpatine was the man behind the man, and Plagueis would end up being the man behind the man behind the man. That makes going with DP seem a little redundant to me.

He did become sort of a crazy mad scientist by the end of his life, so that would be something new for Star Wars.

I guess I sort of have mixed feelings about bringing him into the picture.
