Next nomination: "Personally, Veda's convinced me that alligators have the right idea. They eat their young."

Ida Corwin (Eve Arden) in "Mildred Pierce"

The ultimate Eve Arden line (she always played sarcastic female sidekicks in the movies). And if you've ever seen the movie, it's completely justified, as the creepy Veda carries spoiled-bratdom to the highest power.

    A definite yes.

Haven't seen the film, but Arden built an entire career on being able to deliver snarky bon mots like this and she was always entertaining doing it and this is easily the best line.

    I'll give it a yes.

Next nomination: "I am your number one fan." Annie Wilkes in "Misery" (1990)

    Echoed in "The Incredibles"

It's not quite iconic enough, I think.

Creepy, but not iconic. In fact, this quote made it into the story from pop culture, not the other way around.

    ..eh, i say yes..

Anytime i hear that line, all i can think of is "Misery"..

Mostly Kathy Bates, but "Misery" in general..

That was a good performance by her.

YEah that line just as severe creep factor, and as an aspiring writer that just creeps me out even more. Gah!

    I'd say yes as well

I'm the number one fan of the line, "I'm your number one fan." [face_devil]

    Yes.

Next: "Captain, it is I, Ensign Pulver, and I just threw your stinking palm tree overboard. Now what's all this crud about no movies tonight?" from "Mister Roberts" (1955)

Huge success as a stage play and a movie, and Jack Lemmon became a star with this role. But this movie is not recommended, having dated very, very badly.

    I vote no.

I must admit, I use this one.

    Yes.

I don't use it, but maybe others do?

I do. This and Mask are reminders of the time when we could prove that Cher was a good actress.

    Everything else... not so much.

    It's 'flatter-the-audience' time in Capracornville!

    No.

Meh, I liked the movie. But this is hardly a great line.

    Next nomination, same movie:

"I wouldn't give you two cents for all your fancy rules if, behind them, they didn't have a little bit of plain ordinary everyday kindness, and a little looking out for the other fella, too."

I won't pretend I can be fair to this movie, so I vote no, on the quote and on the sentiments it contains as well. Most of the time fancy rules are just fancy rules.

I love Jimmy Stewart, and I love Mr. Smith goes to Washington, so I'll vote yes on this one. Still, I don't even think it's the best quote in the movie.

You think I'm licked. You all think I'm licked. Well, I'm not licked, and I'm gonna stay right here and fight for this lost cause even if this room gets filled with lies like these, and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place. Somebody'll listen to me.

From Mr. Deeds, my favorite quote is the one about helping the fellows who can't make the hill on high.

    Next, from the same movie:

"You think I'm licked. You all think I'm licked. Well, I'm not licked. And I'm going to stay right here and fight for this lost cause. Even if this room gets filled with lies like these, and the Taylors and all their armies come marching into this place."

I vote no, but you knew that anyway. :p
