ST Amanda Lawrence (Commander D’acy) in Episode IX

I hope she returns. I really liked her character.

 

Agreed. She was able to deliver a lot from very little dialogue and had screen presence. I like actors who can do that. Captain Panaka was a little like that in TPM.

 

Word on social media is right now is that she’s in it and is the LGBTQ representation JJ has been teasing!

JJ’s slicker than I thought. For LGBTQ representation. Rather then create two background characters for all of 30 seconds to do a 5 second kiss.

He uses D’arcy, an established character, to do it.

So fans can’t complain in that aspect.

 

Even though I can't call myself a TLJ fan overall, I really liked D'acy. She had that seriousness, the sort of quiet charisma that Holdo lacked imo. I would be happy to see more of her.

 

Anybody know who she kissed?

Really? Wow, Maz is a nymphomaniac! First Chewie, then the master codebreaker, and now Amanda Lawrence!. There was also an episode of Lego All Stars where she told one of the Freemakers, and I quote: "Your father once plowed his ship right through my front door." I kid you not.

 

Are you sure? I didn't see that at all. I saw some rando Resistance member I hadn't seen before but definitely not Maz. She's not even tall enough to kiss her.

When people said the LGBTQ representation only involved extras I just believed them but D’acy is no extra! Very nice to see. I have liked her character throughout.

I was even happy that she was in IX when she first appeared. That it was also her in the celebration scene celebrating with her girlfriend was very cool.

 

Lol, we don't get a good look at the woman she kisses so I thought people actually assumed it was Maz.

Same, I loved D'acy in TLJ and I was really hoping she would pop back in this film but we weren't getting any confirmation about her actress' return. Was very pleased to see her still an active part of the Resistance.

 

I didn't even assume it was a woman, not with everything going on, it's only when people are mentioning it on social media that made me think back. Could've been this guy for all I took notice.

 

Disney did it again with doing the barest minimum for the maximum credit. The Hollywood Reporter article about this is a joke, as is the interview from earlier this month regarding the kiss. I know a company like Disney isn't going to actually do anything substantial with queer characters in a big budget production, but honestly I'd rather they didn't even do this. It's lazy, an attempt to bait some audience members into going while giving them nothing substantial, and the credit they get is unearned. They didn't do anything bold here. If not for the internet, I honestly wouldn't have even noticed it because you never actually see the other person clearly.

 

Tbh, if I hadn't known about it, I don't think I would have realized the other person is a woman either. This seems as contrived as the moment in the live-action Beauty and the Beast or in Endgame.

Still, I'm glad we were able to get some form of representation in the mainstream Skywalker Saga films at least, as minor as it is.

 

I like this character a lot too.

I think comments about her nose or appearance otherwise are lousy.

The resistance is full of regular people doing it for themselves. If you want all the female characters to basically be made-up, airbrushed, hollywood gorgeous, might I suggest the fast and furious franchise instead.

 

She was chosen by Rian so I was afraid JJ wouldn't bring her back this time around.

Comments like that reek of misogyny. I haven't seen anything like that to describe any of the male Resistance members. Rose was another character attacked for her appearance because it wasn't the typical Hollywood standard.

 

It is pretty evident that they chose an extremely minor character in order to do it without making too much of a big deal of it.

I'm glad they tried to finally cross this primitive barrier, but it's obvious that they're not fully there yet.

 

Great character, great performance, great addition to Star Wars.

Nuff said.
