Just to be clear I don't know or feel that the new villians HAVE to be sith. For all we know Kylo and Snoke are not the big baddie. Regardless of the name I believe Serkis will rock as this character.

NO! Hell NO!!! Dooku wasn't great, but Snoke just sounds laughable. I have a real hard time taking it seriously. I'm not exactly sure what angle they are going with names like that unless they want to follow in the mindset of making SW that B or C level Saturday morning cartoon/serial like Lucas once said it was supposed to be.

I think Kylo is not a Sith yet just like Rey is not a Jedi yet
so that during the ST we see both of them grow and develop in skills/power at the same time.:D

Which might help with the issue of balance and the prophecy. Yes, that threat was dealt with and those Sith defeated. But the dark side is back but in a different form this time (maybe pure Sith? I have no idea what the canon is with Sith anymore).

That could be quite a cool thing to see.

Disappointed that Serkis is going to be a digital character to be honest... not that I have anything against digital characters... but a tad disappointed all the same.

The Prophecy isn't the end of all things. The prophecy has been fulfilled, that doesn't mean the Sith can't return afterwards.

Snoke. Can't possibly be any worse than Sheev, and I actually kind of like that name, if you haven't guessed it by now.

Supreme Leader Snoke suggests a dictatorship plain and simple. Snoke isn't that bad. It's not the coolest name ever but whatever.

Hope he has a really interesting design. I guess he's no longer an old man, then? Don't really need mo-cap for that. Maybe that was an earlier design. I think the name sounds too cute, though.

Maybe the prophecy isn't true or very minimum was misinterpreted. To use a great quote from JJ's last movie (which was also reused in still perhaps the best fan made trailer I seen in a long time): "You think your world is safe. It is illusion. A comforting lie told to protect you. Enjoy these final moments of peace for I have return...to have MY VENGEANCE!

But if they are already presented as the big bad villains, it makes little to zero difference to 99.9% of the audience whether they are officially "Sith" or just Dark Side users. It doesn't matter, so the hide-and-reveal of that would be pretty lame.

One of my favorite things to do is read these discussion threads after a new name or title is released. Just when I start to assume that Star Wars fans should be accustomed to silly names by now, there is always the surprise butthurt of many who don't understand that many of the old ones are just as silly or sillier, they have just been worn in. It's amazing to me how this simple adjustment process eludes some people. Even more amazing is the sudden elevation in naming abilities of George "Darth Sidious Darth Maul" Lucas. One of my fondest memories is back in 1997 when a list of domain names that re-routed to starwars.com was revealed, two of which were www.darthsidious.com and www.darthmaul.com. The essays people wrote on why these domain names must bet an effort to trick us because the names were too stupid/lame to be actual character names, were beyond amusing.

People. Star Wars, as much as means so much to so many, is also fun and campy. The silliness of the names is intentional. It means "this is just a movie, so loosen up, will ya?"

His name is Supreme Leader Snoke. That is how we will know him from now on. But please don't stop your p__ing and moaning and theorizing! It wouldn't be fandom without it :)

I'm actually really digging Snoke. It's a mash up of snake and smoke. I'm wondering what these qualities might have to do with his look, as well as his personality.

We've heard that Supreme Leader Snoke looks like an old zombie-ish man, but I wonder if he's not decaying but has a snake like skin or the scales of a fish? (A long fish like a barracuda is also a possible implication of the name.)

Could it be that the zombie look was just concept art but now we're getting Snoke the snake?

Snakes and cults go together quite well.

Adolf Hitler does not scream evil dictator (Otto Von Bismarck was such a more badass name). His actions make the name now connoted with evil.

We will never look at the name Snoke the same again. [face_clown]

Not villainous? The word is constructed from the words smoke and snake. Hard to get more villainous than that really.

I guess some people really do want it explicitly spelled out, like Darth Bad. :p

If they are serious the people who are coming up with the idea for names in this movie need to be fired, they are either lazy "Finn" "Rey" or generic "The Force Awakens ", or absolutely laughable "Snoke". Seriously Even George did not have as many bad names in one single movie, and at least like others said they were for characters that felt like the name fit. I can't take a character like Snoke seriously if he named like he is some kind of rejected ewok teddy.
And if people are trying to convince me that a name like "Vader" is just as bad, you clearly are trying too hard to defend it. Cheesy may describe his name, but it feels like a villains name and never have I seen or heard of it being "laughable" and no way in hell are people going to be convinced that they should be afraid or feel threatened of a villain named snoke unless they happened to think the teletubbies sounds threatening.
